At Seommaeul Agujjim & Nakjibokkeum (섬마을 아구찜&낙지볶음) on Yuseong-daero in Yuseong, Daejeon, I had a small portion of agujjim (braised monkfish) and fried rice. Even the small portion came topped with a whole octopus, with generous amounts of monkfish and vegetables.

Is it spacious enough for a group meal?

When I entered, the spacious dining hall was the first thing I noticed. The tables were comfortably spaced, and I thought it could work well for group gatherings or company dinners.

How much was the small agujjim, and how much food was there?

The small agujjim I ordered was ₩32,000. There was more than I expected, and by my standards, it felt generous enough for two adult men to eat with some left over.

The monkfish had plenty of meat on it, and a large whole octopus sat on top. I was impressed that even the small portion had such a generous amount of seafood.

How were the octopus, monkfish, and sauce?

After cutting the octopus into easy-to-eat pieces, I found it tender and pleasantly chewy rather than tough. The monkfish was mild and moist without any fishy smell, and it went well with the sweet-spicy sauce.

There were also plenty of bean sprouts and minari (water parsley), adding a crisp texture and fresh taste. To me, the sauce was not just aggressively spicy, and the meal still felt comfortable in my stomach afterward.

How were the steamed egg, fried rice, and dessert?

A fluffy, warm steamed egg came as a basic side dish. It was good to have alongside the spicy agujjim.

After we had nearly finished the agujjim, I ordered fried rice. Rice, crushed seaweed, and sesame oil were stir-fried until golden on a griddle with the remaining sauce, giving it a nutty flavor. I was already full, but still scraped the plate clean.

For dessert, there was chilled, sweet sikhye (rice punch). It was a good palate cleanser after the spicy meal.

Where is it, and what are the hours?

The address is 1163 Yuseong-daero, 1st floor, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. According to the original post, it is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 to 21:30, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00 and last orders at 20:30. It was listed as regularly closed every Sunday.

What stood out most after the meal?

I could eat comfortably in the spacious restaurant, and the service was friendly. Above all, I was satisfied with the value because even the small portion had generous amounts of octopus and monkfish.

The tender, chewy octopus and moist monkfish were particularly memorable. It is a place I would think of again when I want a generous serving of spicy seafood.
