Seogwipo seafood restaurant with abalone porridge: Jejurowoon
In short
Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch is a seafood restaurant in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, near Aqua Planet. On my second visit, my family ordered the ₩24,000-per-person A set and added abalone porridge for a child who does not handle spicy food well; the thick hairtail, crisp tilefish, and rich porridge made for a satisfying meal.

Is it a good stop for a family meal with children?
During a trip to Jeju, I visited Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점) for the second time. It is close to Aqua Planet, which made it easy to choose for a family meal.

The dining room was fairly spacious. There were families and couples dining there, and it looked large enough for a group meal as well.

How much is the A set, and what comes with it?
At the time of my visit, the A set was ₩24,000 per person. It included galchi-jorim (braised hairtail), okdom-gui (grilled tilefish), sotbap (pot-cooked rice), ganjang-gejang (soy-marinated raw crab), and haemul ttukbaegi (seafood stew in an earthenware pot). We ordered the A set and a separate serving of jeonbok-juk (abalone porridge).

The banchan (side dishes) arrived quickly. The ganjang-gejang was particularly meaty, and I liked the flavor of the soy sauce. My child ate it well, and I kept reaching for it too, since I normally like gejang.

The ganjang-gejang was also sold separately.

Kimchi, stir-fried fish cake, stir-fried zucchini, and Jeju seaweed salad were also served. The corn salad was not overly sweet, and the side dishes had a homestyle flavor that made them easy to eat.

What was the seafood stew in the set like?
Soon, the hot haemul ttukbaegi arrived. It was a hot day, but I still wanted some soup with the meal.

Even before the braised hairtail arrived, the table was already set with side dishes and the stew.

The seafood stew had plenty of mussels, clams, blue crab, and shrimp. The broth was refreshing and savory, with a gentle spicy kick. The large shrimp tasted sweet, and the blue crab was nicely meaty too.

What did the child who cannot eat spicy food have?
The okdom-gui in the set had a crisp fried exterior. It was a decent size, and I did not notice any fishiness. My child, who likes fish, said it was delicious and ate it well.

I also ordered abalone porridge separately for my child, who still does not handle spicy food well, and for myself because I like it. Its rich, nutty flavor from the abalone innards was exactly the kind of abalone porridge I had hoped for.

How were the seasoning and flesh of the braised hairtail?
The braised hairtail came in one pot, with Jeju hairtail in a mildly spicy seasoning.

A staff member explained that it had already been cooked and only needed a light reheating.

The hairtail was a good size, and the portion felt generous.

I also liked the sweet radish cooked with the hairtail. Its sweetness worked well with the mildly spicy seasoning, making it good with rice.

While the braised hairtail simmered again, the pot-cooked rice arrived. I transferred the rice into bowls and poured water into the pot to make nurungji (scorched-rice tea). The hairtail had thick flesh, and the seasoning suited my taste.

I picked the hairtail flesh off the bones for the children, and they asked for more, so I kept doing it for a while. I ate mine with a little of the seasoning on the rice and topped it with hairtail. The sweet, tender radish was also good with rice.

What satisfied me on my second visit?
With braised hairtail, grilled tilefish, seafood stew, soy-marinated raw crab, and pot-cooked rice, the set felt well put together. This time, we also had abalone porridge, so my child and I could each eat foods we liked, and we finished another filling meal on my second visit.

After paying, I wrote a receipt review and received a dessert jelly.
