Gapyeong butcher shop for glamping BBQ: Ari Chuksan

In short

Ari Chuksan is a butcher shop in Cheongpyeong-myeon, Gapyeong, where I bought pork belly, pork neck, and Wagyu ribeye for a glamping barbecue. The meat was easy to shop for alongside vegetables and barbecue supplies; the pork neck was tender without any porky odor, and I would buy the Wagyu ribeye again.

Before my husband and I went glamping in Gapyeong, we stopped at Ari Chuksan (아리축산) in Cheongpyeong to buy meat for a barbecue. We chose pork belly, pork neck, and Wagyu ribeye, along with vegetables and side dishes.

Is it convenient to stop by before heading to your accommodation?

Ari Chuksan is on the first floor at 23 Gangbyeon-ro in Cheongpyeong-myeon. There is a supermarket right next door, so it was easy to pick up other necessities after buying meat.

You can park briefly in front of the shop, and there is a free public parking lot a little farther ahead. I thought the public lot would be useful if you want to browse without rushing. The original post listed hours as daily from 9:00 AM to 8:50 PM, and Zero Pay is also accepted.

What barbecue meats are available?

The Korean beef was divided by cut and weight, which made it easy to compare options. There was 1++9-grade Korean beef from the ₩10,000 range per 100 g, with a variety of cuts including flat iron steak, chuck flap, striploin, and tenderloin.

The Korean pork selection ranged from specialty cuts such as pork tomahawk, collar end, and belly button meat to pork jowl, scored pork neck, and whole pork belly. There were also pork back ribs, fresh pork neck, and thin-sliced rib galbi. I liked that pork belly was available in different thicknesses.

Alongside chilled meat, there were frozen meats and frozen foods. The shop sold imported and Korean meats as well as webfoot octopus, beef intestines, pork intestines, and sundae (Korean blood sausage).

Imported options included Australian young lamb ribs, U.S. Choice beef rib meat, boneless short rib meat, and LA galbi. Australian Wagyu skirt steak and ribeye were also available.

Can you buy vegetables and barbecue supplies there too?

Charcoal, wasabi, ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), salt, and sauces were available. There were also vegetables such as mushrooms, lettuce, chili peppers, and shredded green onion, so it was convenient to buy what we needed for the barbecue in one stop.

How much were the meat and side dishes we chose?

We chose three kinds of meat for our glamping site, plus shredded green onion, garlic, and chili peppers. These were the weights and prices at the time.

  • Pork belly, at least 2 cm thick: 458 g, ₩13,230.
  • Fresh pork neck: 334 g, ₩9,280.
  • Wagyu ribeye: 264 g, ₩15,250.
  • Shredded green onion was ₩500, peeled garlic ₩2,000, and Cheongyang chili peppers ₩1,500.

It was convenient to buy the meat and side dishes together, and the prices of the meat I chose did not feel burdensome.

How was the meat when we grilled it at the accommodation?

After arriving at our accommodation, we started the barbecue. We grilled the pork first, and I especially liked the pork neck the owner recommended.

The pork neck was tender, with no porky odor. The pork belly was savory and juicy, and although it was thick-cut, its texture was tender.

Next, we grilled the Wagyu ribeye. It had a nice meaty aroma while cooking, and when I ate it, it felt just as tender as Korean beef. I was satisfied with meat bought in the ₩10,000 range and would like to choose it again next time.

There were also signs that celebrities had visited the shop. I was happy with the pork and Wagyu that I bought and grilled myself, and I would like to stop by again when I travel to Gapyeong or Cheongpyeong for an overnight stay.

What were the weekday promotions, reservation, and delivery details?

At the time of the original post, Tuesdays were presented as pork butchering days, with complimentary pork skin and other offal. Thursdays were beef butchering days, when yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) and sashimi were sold, with complimentary liver and cheonyeop (beef omasum), among other items. There was a weekend promotion discounting pork belly and pork neck on Fridays and Saturdays, and the post said details could be checked through the KakaoTalk channel.

The post also said that visitors who made a Naver reservation could receive complimentary lettuce, shredded green onion, salt, and sauces. For delivery orders of ₩70,000 or more, shipping was free and salt and sauces were included. After trying the meat myself, I wanted to buy it again by delivery as well.
