Nowon sushi buffet, weekend lunch with a friend: mala tang at Kuu Kuu
In short
Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch is a sushi buffet on the 6th floor of the Seoul Oncheon building in Nowon, Seoul. On a weekend lunch visit with a friend after a long break, the writer tried sushi and rolls, raw salmon sashimi, grilled meats, a Chinese corner that even serves mala tang (spicy Sichuan hot pot soup), and bead ice cream, and found no dish that missed. Weekend lunch at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch has long waits and a frequently full parking lot, so booking on Naver first is the way to go.

I recently went to Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch with a friend! It had been ages since I'd been to Kuu Kuu at all, and the menu has changed so much, it looks really great now~ It's a good place when you want sushi and a wide buffet spread in Nowon all at once, so here's my review 💕

Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch weekend lunch: reservations and parking
Weekend lunch at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch has a really long wait, so I recommend booking on Naver beforehand. Kuu Kuu is such a famous sushi buffet that many of you have probably tried several branches.
The branch is in the Seoul Oncheon building, so there is parking and it's easy to get to. But on the weekend I went, the lot was often full, and with lots of churches and foot traffic around, there aren't many places to park, so keep that in mind!!

Back at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch after a long time: what changed?
Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch now has not just sushi but rolls, all sorts of dishes and desserts. From what I remembered, Kuu Kuu had lots of sushi and a somewhat limited range of other dishes?! But these days it puts other buffets to shame.
They also do birthday parties and first-birthday parties, and since the food is reliable, I thought it would be fine for that. With so many menu choices, I also thought it would work well for a family meal!

Sushi, rolls and the raw salmon sashimi corner
Kuu Kuu means sushi, of course!! Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch had so many kinds of sushi that I agonized forever over what to eat first, haha

The basics like salmon, shrimp and other fish were plentiful, and there were several kinds of rolls too, so it was easy to pick what you like.

On top of that there was a sashimi corner, and raw salmon sashimi?!!! Is this real? I enjoy smoked salmon just fine, but raw salmon sashimi 💕💕 You could get your money's worth just stuffing yourself with this.

Salad, grill and Western stations
Across from the sashimi corner at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch there was a wide selection of salads, which you can't skip. The grill station had everything from smoked duck to lamb chops and LA galbi (marinated beef short ribs), meats beyond the quality of an ordinary buffet.
There was also a varied Western station, where food turned over quickly, which was nice..!

I love raw food, so I mostly ate sushi, but I sampled other dishes here and there too. The charm of a buffet is trying a little of lots of things rather than a lot of one thing!!

Mala tang at the Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch Chinese corner
The Chinese corner at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch had chili shrimp, cream shrimp, kkwabaerou (crispy sweet-and-sour pork) and even mala tang (spicy Sichuan-style soup)?!! The lineup was crazy. I don't think we can call Kuu Kuu just a sushi buffet anymore, haha

Bead ice cream, drinks and desserts
The dessert corner at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch had not just regular ice cream but bead ice cream too. I looked over all the desserts as well,,

And the bead ice cream that made my friend and me go wild!!!!!! So many desserts, I was thrilled.

The drinks too,, wow, there are so many.. Now you see why I was so surprised visiting Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch after so long. Okay, let's start loading up for real.
My actual plates: sushi and meat
Hahaha a spread of sushi 💕 The rice portion in the sushi at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch isn't huge, just right, so the quality feels like it has gone up a lot?! Sushi really is best eaten right away.
If you love sushi, the biggest plus is picking and eating whichever kinds you want, right? I also did justice to the meat, like lamb chops and pork ribs.

Is Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch good for a family meal?
There was nothing I ate at Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch that I'd call a failure? At a buffet there are usually a few disappointing dishes..
There were really lots of families when I went, and while eating I thought that adults and kids often like different dishes, but Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch has real variety and the taste is decent overall, so I thought it would be good for a family meal!

After the sushi and main dishes, I had sweet desserts and coffee, so the meal felt properly wrapped up.
Who I'd recommend Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch to
Overall, Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch should suit people who like sushi and rolls but also want to enjoy a variety of other food. Especially
- People who want a wide range of sushi and rolls
- People who want to enjoy lots of dishes besides sushi
- People looking for a family dining spot
- People looking for a buffet to visit with kids
- People looking for a place where a group can each pick what they want
If that's you, it's worth a visit. If you're looking for a family meal or gathering spot in Nowon, or want a wide range of sushi and rolls in one go, put Kuu Kuu Nowon Branch on your list!! Next time I want to go a bit more leisurely and pick off the dishes I wanted to try one by one :)
