Medium steamed skate for 3 at a Sokcho restaurant: Jungang Sanghoe

I'm bringing you a review of a hot restaurant I stopped by on my Sokcho trip! When you go to Sokcho you have to eat steamed fish, right? This time I went to Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe (속초중앙상회), right next to Sokcho Jungang Market, and the location alone is the best!!

The market area is the most crowded and hardest place to park in Sokcho, right? 😭 But here they give you 2 hours of free parking with a meal, so the parking worry was totally gone!! You finish a hearty meal and can stroll into the market in one minute on foot, so the route was seriously amazing 👏🏻

What are the dining room and group seating like at Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe?

The dining room at Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe is spacious and clean, with separate group seating for 8 up to 40 people. The tables are spaced generously, which suits family trips and group gatherings.

When we went inside, the space was large and kept neat and clean. The tables are nicely spread out, so it felt comfortable to eat without feeling cramped~ There's also a big group seating area that holds 8 up to 40 people, just so you know!! For parties of 5 or more you can reserve ahead so you can eat right when you arrive, so I really recommend booking if you're visiting on a family trip or with a group!

Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe menu and how to order

You order on the tablet at each table at Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe. The signature dishes are Pro Steamed Skate, Sin Steamed Skate, Soy Sauce Steamed Skate and fire-grilled-flavor stir-fried squid.

You just order on the tablet at your table while browsing the menu, easy!! The signature menu includes Pro Steamed Skate, Sin Steamed Skate, Soy Sauce Steamed Skate and fire-grilled-flavor stir-fried squid, and

the Gaohanssang set menu, which packs steamed skate, stir-fried squid and octopus seaweed soup made with beef bone broth all in one, also looked really good, but we decided on the steamed skate haha

Octopus seaweed soup comes out first

At Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe, basic side dishes and octopus seaweed soup (사골 문어 미역국) in a big bowl come out before the main steamed skate. Octopus and seaweed go into a beef bone broth, so the soup was rich and hearty.

Is the medium Pro Steamed Skate enough for 3 people?

We ordered the medium Pro Steamed Skate at Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe for 3 people, and the portion was bigger than expected. The red sauce comes piled over the skate and the sauce-soaked radish.

And here's the medium Pro Steamed Skate at last! We ordered it for 3 people and I was surprised at how generous the portion was,,, The red sauce comes piled over the skate and the nicely seasoned radish, and the moment it arrived, the fierce, delicious smell really got my mouth watering 😂

Skate flesh and sauce flavor of the Pro Steamed Skate

The skate flesh in the Pro Steamed Skate is thick, yet it pulled apart softly along the grain with just a touch of chopsticks. The sauce is rich and salty with a definite spicy kick.

The skate meat is really thick, but it tore apart softly and tenderly along the grain with just a light touch of the chopsticks!!! And the moment you put it in your mouth the flesh melts away, and the sauce is rich, salty and definitely spicy!

The sauce is quite bright and bold, so if you shred the soft skate into small pieces and pile it on rice with plenty of sauce and mix it up, it's a certified rice thief (a dish so good you can't stop eating rice with it). If you like strongly seasoned sauces or intense, deep Korean flavors, it'll stick to you perfectly!!!
