Daegu after-work date bar with pork duruchigi and cream udon: Sangbong
In short
Sangbong Dongseong-ro is a cozy Korean pub serving cooked dishes, tucked into an alley off Dongseong-ro in Samdeok-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. After work on a weekday, the writer and her boyfriend went to Sangbong Dongseong-ro planning a quick beer and ended up eating plenty: pork belly duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork), cream udon, draft beer and tomato beer. Verdict: a Dongseong-ro date bar where the food is even more memorable than the atmosphere.

I was looking for a Dongseong-ro bar or a Samdeok-dong bar in Daegu, and ended up at Sangbong Dongseong-ro (상봉 동성로) with my boyfriend on a weekday evening! I was hungry after work and we went thinking "let's just have a quick beer~", but we came out having eaten way too much food 🤣 If you're looking for a Dongseong-ro date spot, a Samdeok-dong bar or a Dongseong-ro place with great food, have a look 🤍

What's the vibe of Sangbong in the Dongseong-ro alley?

Sangbong Dongseong-ro is inside an alley off Dongseong-ro, and it wasn't hard to find! Honestly it was my first time in this alley, so I was like, "it's in a place like this?" But it was cozy, the mood was great, just the best! It felt like a good spot for a blind date~ 🫢 And even on a weekday there were quite a lot of people, right? Am I the only one who has work tomorrow? ㅠㅠㅠ I guess tasty places don't care what day it is 🐷

Inside Sangbong Dongseong-ro it was cozier than I expected! Such good vibes~ There aren't a huge number of tables, which made it quieter and nicer! There were lots of couples and also groups of friends, so I thought it'd work well for a date too 🤍 A weekday date with my boyfriend after so long, I love it~~ 🍻

What did the two of us order?
At Sangbong Dongseong-ro, we picked pork belly duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork) and cream udon to eat, with draft beer and tomato beer to drink. After staring at the menu for ages, we figured one Korean dish and one Western dish couldn't fail, so that's what we ordered, hehe. My boyfriend got the draft beer and I got the tomato beer 🍺

The free side snack at Sangbong Dongseong-ro is gangnaengi (puffed corn snack)! We kept picking at it one by one until the food came out, and maybe it's because I was hungry... but it was weirdly tasty? Honestly, hardly anything tastes bad to me these days.. my taste buds are legendary ㅠㅠ lol

Is the pork belly duruchigi different from what you make at home?
The pork belly duruchigi at Sangbong Dongseong-ro had a sauce I kept thinking about, and it came with rice too. Honestly, duruchigi is something we often make at home, right? So I didn't expect much, but this was really good 🤤 It had that flavor you never get at home haha. I scooped up a big spoonful of rice with it 🤍

Is the thick cream udon too heavy?
The cream udon at Sangbong Dongseong-ro has a thick cream sauce, but it wasn't as cloying as I expected. This is seriously delicious... I like thick cream, so I liked the cream udon even more than the pork belly duruchigi haha. My boyfriend and I scraped up every last bit of the sauce 🤣

What does the tomato beer taste like?
The tomato beer at Sangbong Dongseong-ro felt exactly like eating a Tomatoma ice cream (a tomato-flavored ice pop). I had the tomato beer 🍅 and my boyfriend had the draft beer! I love tomatoes in general, and Tomatoma is my favorite ice cream!? So maybe that's why the tomato beer was totally my taste!! I enjoyed it so much haha. On the other hand, if you hate tomatoes... skip it 😂 The draft beer was also super cold and perfect with the food 🍺

Menu choice: total success 🤍 We went for a quick beer and ended up eating a ton of food, oink oink hahaha

Is Sangbong Dongseong-ro worth going back to?
The mood at Sangbong Dongseong-ro was good, but it's the food I remember more 🤍 Also, the full-length mirror out front makes your legs look super long!>_< Everyone, definitely take a photo here! haha Next time I want to try the soft tofu stew (sundubu jeongol) and other dishes too haha. It's the kind of place I'll think of when I want a drink in Dongseong-ro with proper food 🍻
