Spicy cast-iron pork bones and big cutlet for 4 in Songpa: Taeneung

Taeneung Gamjatang Garak Market Station branch is a gamjatang (pork bone stew) and braised pork bone restaurant near Exit 3 of Garak Market Station in Songpa, Seoul. Four people came for an early dinner and ordered a medium spicy cast-iron braised pork bones for ₩39,000 and two giant pork cutlets at ₩13,000 each. The meat came cleanly off the bones and was sweet and spicy, and the giant pork cutlet was big enough to work as a kids' meal. With a spacious dining room and parking out front, Taeneung Gamjatang Garak Market Station branch is a dependable pick for group dinners and family meals.

Yangjae Station pie shop, kabocha 8-pie mix: Hodu Kkakki Brothers

Hodu Kkakki Brothers (호두까끼형제) is a takeout-only handmade pie shop near Yangjae Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, Seoul (Nambusunhwan-ro 351-gil). The writer took home a Premium Mix Pie of 8 pies they picked themselves: 4 kabocha (sweet pumpkin) pies, 2 walnut pies and 2 milk cream walnut pies, at around 4,000 won per slice. With thin crust, generous filling and a pretty box, Hodu Kkakki Brothers' Premium Mix Pie is a reasonably priced gift worth recommending.

Garak Market fish shop, fixed-price sashimi by weight: Yeongjae Susan

Yeongjae Susan (영재수산) is a raw fish shop on the 1st floor of the Panmae-dong building at Garak Mall in Songpa, Seoul, selling fixed-price mixed sashimi platters with guaranteed minimum weights. The writer took home a small Nonggwang Chamhoe platter (sea bass, flounder and red sea bream) for two at ₩65,000, cooked the included maeuntang (spicy fish stew) at home, and was pleased with the rich in-season sea bass and the neat, well-iced packaging. For easy parking and clear portion sizes, Yeongjae Susan is a good choice for sashimi to go at Garak Market.

Garak-dong izakaya: Asahi draft beer and handmade skewers at Haru

Haru Izakaya Garak Main Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya in the Garak-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul, within walking distance of Police Hospital Station Exit 1. On an early-evening visit, the writer ordered Asahi draft beer and the handmade mixed skewers the owner makes fresh every day, and enjoyed the free braised konjac side dish and the skewers, which were not too salty. Haru Izakaya is a cozy Garak-dong bar for a quiet beer with a friend.

Police Hospital Station beef offal grill, marrow-rich gopchang: Midang

Midang Hanwoo Gopchang (미당한우곱창) is a Korean beef offal grill in Garak-dong, Songpa, Seoul, between Police Hospital Station and Garak Market Station. Two people craving gopchang ordered the Special Hanwoo Gopchang Set (68,000 won) and one beer; staff grilled everything at the table, and the marrow-filled beef small intestine and the marinated crab side dish stood out. Midang Hanwoo Gopchang is a Garak-dong gopchang spot worth revisiting for generous, odor-free gopchang.

Kid-friendly conveyor sushi in Seolleung: garlic steak, Sushi Ian N

Sushi Ian N Seolleung Station (스시이안앤 선릉역점) is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor in the Seolleung Station food alley in Gangnam, Seoul, where every plate costs a flat ₩1,990. On a visit with a child, the table had egg shrimp sushi, gamtae (thin seaweed) uni shrimp sushi, salmon sushi and wagyu sushi, while the child ate 6 to 7 plates of lightly torch-seared garlic steak sushi alone. Newly opened, clean and with free basement parking, Sushi Ian N Seolleung Station is a good sushi spot for kids near the Daechi cram-school area.

Chef Cho Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam is a cake shop in Sweet Park, on B1 of Shinsegae Department Store Gangnam by Express Bus Terminal Station in Seocho, Seoul. The writer bought Chef Cho's Real Mango No. 1 (₩56,000) for mango-loving kids and found the flower-thin mango slices melt-in-the-mouth soft, with a subtly flavoured mango cream. Verdict: the whole family loved it, and the child now wants Chef Cho's Real Mango for their own birthday cake.

Seolleung beef BBQ in canyon rooms: flower cut, basil sauce, Hwaseol

Hwaseol Seolleung Direct Branch (화설 선릉직영점) is a snowflake-marbled beef BBQ restaurant near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul, set in a 70-pyeong space themed on American West canyons and camping, with a Cowboy Room, Hunter Room and Antelope Canyon Room. Cheongdam Korean seafood restaurant for family gatherings: Hallasan

Seongnae-dong tonkatsu dinner for three: fillet katsu and curry, Riae

Riae Premium Olympic Park Branch is a Japanese aged-pork tonkatsu restaurant in Seongnae-dong, Gangdong, Seoul. Three people came for dinner and ordered one each of the cold soba fillet set (19,500 won), filet mignon fillet katsu (19,000 won) and Tokyo spice fillet curry (17,500 won). The fillet was thick and tender, and the portions were generous; the curry was good enough to order an extra bowl of rice. Riae Premium is a good pick for fillet katsu on a family meal or date near Olympic Park.
