It was an unusually hot day and I was desperate for coffee time in a great space, so Der Stuhl Yeonhui (데스툴 연희) came to mind! I finally went back after quite a while.
Der Stuhl Yeonhui parking and how to get there
Der Stuhl Yeonhui is a large café in Yeonhui-dong with parking. It's also close to a bus stop, so it's easy to reach by public transport. When you arrive, the building's exterior is so striking and impressive that you'll probably stop in your tracks..

Der Stuhl is a café with a deep European feel, great for a date in Yeonhui-dong. The entrance is up these stairs to the 2nd floor.
What is the interior of Der Stuhl Yeonhui like?
Step up to the 2nd floor and a beautiful space with an interior you can't take your eyes off appears! Sunlight pouring through huge windows, a high ceiling and furniture here and there create Der Stuhl's own atmosphere.

A space inspired by Germany's Kunstakademie
The interior of Der Stuhl is inspired by the Kunstakademie, a German art school. They say the overall framework of the space design aims for the clean, no-frills form you think of when you think of German style.

Der Stuhl Yeonhui is great for dates in Yeonhui-dong, and it's also a good café for working, so lots of people had come on their own.

A red sofa in a monochrome space, high ceilings and a pointed roof
Der Stuhl Yeonhui is decorated in a seemingly casual monochrome, yet you can see the interior is very carefully calculated. It's fun to spot the accent colors, from the red sofa to the little props here and there. With summer coming, the view outside the windows was full of green, which felt like part of the interior too.
The high ceiling and pointed roof are also unique to this place, and the tall ceiling gives a real sense of openness.

Der Stuhl would be a good experience for the interior alone, but the coffee and desserts were truly excellent too.

What's on the menu at Der Stuhl Yeonhui?

Der Stuhl's main drinks are an Americano and café latte where you can choose Heyden or Malte beans, a cream mocha, Auf Matcha (a matcha coffee), and Almdudler, a vegan soda with a fresh, refreshing fizz.

The desserts are kept neat and simple: cake, pound cake, a ham and cheese sandwich and so on.
What does the Malte-bean Americano taste like?

Here are the coffee and dessert Der Stuhl Yeonhui prettily prepared for us.

The tray and coaster are both pretty too, so I loved the photo I took with everything left just as it was served.

That day I wanted a rich Americano, nutty and bitter, so I picked the Malte beans. The description written out like this helped me appreciate the coffee's flavor even more.
The Malte-bean Americano had a subtle nutty flavor and a slightly sweet aroma after the bitter Americano taste. It's a really delicious coffee spot in Yeonhui-dong!

Is Der Stuhl's signature carrot cake really that good?
And with Der Stuhl in Yeonhui-dong, how could I not try the signature carrot cake! Dense, heavy and thick, the carrot cake even looks like Der Stuhl itself, with no fuss at all.
With that dense cake texture, I once again thought I'd made the right choice with carrot cake!

Der Stuhl's carrot cake has a deep, rich flavor from its ingredients, a dense texture, and a sweetness that isn't overdone, so it went wonderfully with coffee. Above all, the cream was sooo good that even with plenty of it spread thickly in layers, I ate it slowly to make it last. I've had a lot of delicious carrot cakes, but Der Stuhl's might be the best. I even want to give one as a gift when I meet friends later..!
Who is Der Stuhl Yeonhui recommended for?
Der Stuhl Yeonhui was a café that easily holds its own as a dessert spot in Yeonhui-dong. Whether for a date, as a dog-friendly café or for a solo visit, anyone can drop in comfortably at this European-feeling café. If you haven't been yet, I recommend giving it a try!
