Seocho Chinese restaurant for chewy shrimp har gow: Maeranbang
In short
Maeranbang Gyodae Branch is a Chinese restaurant near Gyodae Station in Seocho, Seoul. I tried hand-pulled black bean noodles, spicy Chinese-style bibimbap, and three dim sum dishes in its glamorous Hong Kong-style dining room. Verdict: go for the generously filled shrimp har gow and a polished group meal.

A glamorous Chinese restaurant near Gyodae Station
Maeranbang is close to Exit 14 of Gyodae Station!

🅿️ You can park beside the building for a ₩3,000 base fee 🅿️ (First 30 minutes free, then an additional ₩1,000 per 10 minutes)

From the entrance, the upscale Chinese-style feel really hits you, so it is perfect for a formal gathering or occasion!
A range of seating, from private rooms to group tables
This is the inside of Maeranbang! ✨ There is a wide range of seating, including private rooms, group tables, and bar seating~ If you would like a private meal in a room, just reserve through Naver or Catchtable!!

The interior is huge and so glamorous—the Hong Kong vibe is absolutely bursting through, and it looks amazing!!

Maeranbang also has satisfying course meals, making it great for company dinners, family introduction meetings, or wedding-invitation gatherings!

The atmosphere is upscale but the prices are reasonable, so I could see why it is so popular around Gyodae!! The chef is from Palsun, so the flavor is a given—and the atmosphere, quality, and service are all great ><

What I ate
- Hand-pulled ganjja-jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) (₩12,000)
- Maeranbang Chinese-style bibimbap (mixed rice) (₩12,000)
- House-made shrimp har gow (shrimp dumplings) (₩9,000)
- Soft chive changfen (rice noodle rolls) (₩9,000)
- Guchae-gyo (chive dumplings) (₩9,000)
Hand-pulled ganjja-jjajangmyeon
The hand-pulled ganjja-jjajangmyeon comes with freshly pulled noodles, a rich black bean sauce, and jjamppong broth! The toppings are generous and the seasoning has real heft, so I recommend it if you love a deeply flavored ganjja-jjajang ><
Maeranbang Chinese-style bibimbap

Maeranbang Chinese-style bibimbap is a spicy mixed-rice dish loaded with seafood and vegetables!

The mixed sauce is punchy and distinctly Chinese-style, so I could see why this is a Maeranbang signature~!!
Three dim sum dishes you have to try
- House-made shrimp har gow (₩9,000)
- Soft chive changfen (₩9,000)
- Guchae-gyo (₩9,000)

If you come to Maeranbang, you absolutely have to order the dim sum too and enjoy it properly!! ✨ My personal ranking is shrimp har gow > chive changfen > guchae-gyo, but honestly, all three are so delicious that I really hope you try them, haha.

The dim sum wrappers are incredibly thin and chewy, while the fillings are completely generous and substantial—seriously some of the best I have ever had!! ✨
