Oat powder meal replacement for busy mornings: Garu Seonsaeng Oat Drink

In short

Garu Seonsaeng Mix-in Oat Drink is a 500g oat powder meal replacement from Korea that I mixed with milk and warm water. It tasted richly nutty in milk, dissolved better than expected in cold milk, and could be made thick like oat porridge for a quick breakfast.

I used Garu Seonsaeng Mix-in Oat Drink for an easy breakfast on busy mornings. I generally like oats and oatmeal, and when I mixed it with milk, it had a deeply nutty flavor.

What are the contents and powder texture like?

The package included 500g of powder, an instruction sheet, and a dedicated scoop. Since it is a powder, it was easy to take out only as much as I needed, and the wide package opening made it convenient to scoop.

According to the product description, it is made by grinding Canadian oats whole, including the hulls, and uses oats, sea salt, and unrefined raw sugar as ingredients. When I tried it, the particles were finer than I expected, and it felt smooth rather than coarse or chalky.

For my taste, it was not overly sweet and had a clean flavor. A subtle, nutty oat flavor lingered.

How does it taste and dissolve in milk?

At first, I mixed it with milk instead of water. The nutty flavor was rich, so I often continued to have it with milk; personally, it felt a little like a grain latte.

Using a shaker bottle I had at home helped it mix quickly and thoroughly. I also made it this way to take with me when going to exercise. The instructions also introduced ways to drink it mixed with water or soy milk.

I made it for the children as an after-school snack. It dissolved better than expected even in cold milk straight from the refrigerator, and mixing it with a mini whisk made it feel smoother and creamier.

There was little sensation of powder lingering in my mouth while drinking it. In my experience, it went down nutty and smooth, without a chalky texture or fishy smell.

How is it as a breakfast replacement with warm water?

When I made it thick with warm water, it felt like oat porridge or a mild soup. Afterward, my stomach felt comfortable and I felt quietly satisfied. It took about 10 seconds to mix, so it was easy to prepare even on busy mornings.

Oat Drink mixed thickly with warm water

It felt thicker than a ready-to-drink oat beverage, but I could adjust the consistency by changing the amount of water or powder. I mixed it to the texture I wanted, whether I was drinking it or eating it like porridge.

What ratio of water and powder did I use?

I added 2 scoops of powder, using the included dedicated scoop, to 150–180ml of water or milk and mixed it. For a thicker drink, I added more powder; for a lighter one, I added more water or milk or used less powder.

I used 2 scoops when drinking it as a beverage, and added one more scoop when having it like oatmeal porridge for breakfast.

I also put a banana in a blender with it and made it like an oat smoothie. When I was hungry, drinking a glass instead of having cookies made me feel full, and even when I drank it late at night, my stomach felt comfortable.

Was the powder form easy to store and use?

With ready-to-drink products, I sometimes felt pressure to finish them quickly after opening, but with this product I could take out only the amount I wanted whenever I felt like having it, so there was less concern about quantity. It was also convenient not to have to soak, grind, or strain oats separately.

According to the product guidance, the best-before date is 12 months from the date of manufacture, and it should be stored sealed in a cool place away from direct sunlight.
