Bongdam Chinese restaurant's new mala cream jjamppong: Bobae Banjeom
In short
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch is a jjamppong-focused Chinese restaurant in Jangdeung Village (Bongdam District 2), Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong. The writer ate in and tried the new mala cream jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup in a creamy broth, 15,000 won), which is creamy and nutty with a gentle mala aroma, and the bulgogi japchae rice (12,000 won), which isn't spicy and is easy to share with a child. Verdict: the writer preferred Bobae Banjeom's mala cream jjamppong to the original cream jjamppong.

Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch
Where is Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch?
Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch (보배반점 봉담점) is a jjamppong restaurant in Jangdeung Village, Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong, in front of Jungheung S-Class The First at the Daiso intersection. It's inside Bongdam District 2, so it's easy to get to.
Do you have a soul food? I love noodles and I love spicy food, so jjamppong is my soul food. There are several Chinese restaurants in Bongdam, and I'm jotting down my review of the new menu at Bobae, the jjamppong favorite of Bongdam District 2.
I have a kid, so I can't eat in the restaurant often and mostly order delivery, but eating in the restaurant is so much tastier here!

What are the atmosphere and cleanliness like at Bobae Banjeom Bongdam?
The restaurant was clean and pleasant overall, and the tables and chairs were neatly arranged. They say they even have monthly CESCO pest control to keep things hygienic.
Inside, photos of lots of different dishes are posted by the counter. They all look so delicious ♥ I think hygiene is everything at a Chinese restaurant, and Bobae is spotless, so the first impression was great.

Is Bobae Banjeom Bongdam good for kids and groups?
Good to know: Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch has high chairs. The interior is spacious with high ceilings, so it feels upscale, and it works well for families or groups of friends.
You can have lunch or dinner, and they say takeout and delivery of drinking snacks are possible too. My husband often goes out in the evening with friends for haemul jjamppong tang (seafood jjamppong stew) as a drinking snack.

How to order at Bobae Banjeom Bongdam, and what we chose
You order at a kiosk, and they say each dish is cooked as soon as you order. We ordered the mala cream jjamppong (₩15,000) and the bulgogi japchae rice (₩12,000).
Cream jjamppong is a hot menu item at Bobae, and it had been upgraded and released with a mala (numbing-spicy) flavor. I had to try the new menu, so I ordered one noodle dish and one rice dish to cover both.

How is bulgogi japchae rice different from regular japchae rice?
Bobae's bulgogi japchae rice (₩12,000) has bulgogi (marinated beef) in it, so it tasted a bit nuttier and deeper than regular japchae rice (glass noodles and vegetables over rice). It came out not long after ordering, and the glossy shine made my appetite jump.
The crunch of the assorted vegetables, the glass noodles and the rice together in one bite had so much flavor.
It's not spicy, so I'm planning to come back with my first and second kids to have it again ♥

Is Bobae Banjeom's new mala cream jjamppong very spicy?
The mala cream jjamppong (₩15,000) at Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch doesn't have a strong mala aroma, so I think anyone can enjoy it without worry. The first bite is creamy and rich, then the mala fragrance spreads softly behind it, which gave it an exotic taste.
The big new menu star: mala cream jjamppong! Mala tang is right up there with jjamppong as one of my two favorites, so a mix of mala and jjamppong? I couldn't wait to find out what it tasted like. The moment it arrived I could smell the mala and the wok fire, and after one stir I was struck by how nicely thick (?) it was.

Mala cream jjamppong vs. the original cream jjamppong
Compared with the original cream jjamppong, personally I liked the mala cream jjamppong better. The noodles were chewy and went down easily too.
The amount of seafood was just right, and the fried tofu pouches in it were a real treat~ Truly a Bongdam District 2 jjamppong favorite, right? Whatever jjamppong you order, they seem to use fresh ingredients and get the wok flavor just right!

Does Bobae Banjeom Bongdam have a summer menu?
For summer, Bobae Banjeom Bongdam Branch also has abalone junghwa naengmyeon (Chinese-style cold noodles) and abalone cold jjamppong. I only noticed them after I'd ordered.
There are lots of fusion dishes, so it's a nice place where you can try a variety~ Next time I'll come eat with the kids ♥
