Straw-fired pork jowl and belly dinner in Suwon: Jipbul Taebaek

Jipbul Taebaek Suwon Ingye Branch is a straw-fire and charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant newly opened in Ingye-dong, Suwon. For dinner, the straw-fired pork jowl (170g) and straw-fired pork belly (170g) came through with a subtle smoky aroma from the pre-searing and juicy meat, paired with a beef soybean paste stew. Verdict: the black sesame salt, soy sauce dip, and angelica/mushroom pastes make for a genuinely fun combination, and it's a solid pick for a dinner or team meal in Ingye-dong.

Grilled mackerel barley rice set for dinner, third visit: Boriook Main

Boriook Main Branch is a barley rice restaurant in Yeongtong, Suwon, known for its self-serve namul (seasoned vegetable) bar where diners pick their own toppings. On this third visit, the writer ordered the ₩15,000 barley rice mackerel set, a full dinner spread with grilled mackerel, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and a namul bibimbap. It's the kind of clean, unfussy Korean dinner that keeps pulling the writer back.
