Weekend date sushi in Gwanghwamun, cold soba B set: Elephant Sushi
In short
Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is a sushi restaurant on basement level 1 of KT Tower at Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2, in Jongno, Seoul. On a weekend date, the blogger arrived before lunchtime, walked in without a wait, ate the Elephant Set B with cold soba (naengmomil), and added monkfish liver (ankimo) sushi, tried for the first time, and salmon sushi as single orders. Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun serves chewy, low-temperature-aged sushi and refreshing cold soba at a reasonable price, making it a satisfying summer sushi spot in Gwanghwamun.

Where is Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun, and is there parking?

Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is on the first basement floor of KT Tower, by Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2. It's famous as a sushi spot near the station, so it was busy even on a weekend. For parking, use the KT Gwanghwamun branch underground garage, which I hear covers up to 2 hours!

Weekend wait: arrive before lunchtime and walk right in
When there's a wait, you register on the Catch Table device at the entrance. When it's your turn, a KakaoTalk message arrives, which is super convenient..!👍
I arrived before lunchtime and got in with no wait, but once lunchtime hit, the place got packed T_T If you hate waiting, come a little earlier than the lunch rush and you can walk right in.

Interior, seating and tablet ordering
The inside of Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun is clean and comfortable. Above all, the chairs are comfy, which I loved. Seating ranges from tables for two to bigger group tables, so eating solo or with a group is no problem!

Every table has a tablet, so ordering is easy. Pickled ginger-style rakkyo (pickled scallions), soy sauce, water, wet wipes and napkins are all provided, which was handy.

Take as much soy sauce and rakkyo as you like.😁 The rakkyo was big and crunchy and so good. A great sushi place has great rakkyo too!!

They brought out a clear broth and a cabbage salad first. One sip of the broth settled my stomach, a perfect appetizer before the sushi.
What's on the menu at Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun?
At Elephant Sushi Gwanghwamun you get sushi made with fresh fish delivered daily. You can order sets or single pieces, so it's easy to pick what you like!

Besides sushi, there's kaisendon (seafood rice bowl), hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl), mini cold soba, ochazuke (rice with tea broth) and assorted sashimi, so if you're hunting for a Gwanghwamun Station spot, give Elephant Sushi a try.

Drinks are varied too, from Kirin draft beer and Suntory highball to soda and sparkling water. Many guests bring kids, so they even sell Hershey's chocolate milk. Nice touch👍
Elephant Set B: what's in it and how it tastes

I ordered Elephant Set B. The set menus come with cold soba, so they're extra filling. In winter, hot udon is served instead of cold soba.

Set B had a nice variety of fish: fresh white fish, salmon, soy-marinated shrimp, blue-backed fish, tuna, monkfish liver and amberjack. The selection can change a little day to day depending on supply, so keep that in mind!

It's aged at low temperature in the traditional sushi way, so the texture was wonderfully chewy T_T They also vary the aging time by fish, so you can feel the care in every piece.

First taste of monkfish liver (ankimo) sushi, added as a single order
I'd never tried monkfish liver (ankimo) sushi before, and it was so rich and nutty, absolutely delicious. I added more monkfish liver and salmon sushi as single orders, hahaha

Cold soba (naengmomil), perfect for summer
The cold soba that came with Set B was perfection.. chewy noodles and an icy broth, ideal for a hot summer day👍
I enjoyed delicious sushi at Elephant Sushi, famous as a Gwanghwamun Station sushi spot. It's good for solo meals and family dinners, so if you're looking for a Gwanghwamun or KT Tower restaurant, check it out.
