Gyodong, Daegu Thai restaurant with mood-lit window seats: Thai Yami
In short
Thai Yami is a long-running Thai restaurant on the ground floor of an officetel building in Gyo-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. At Thai Yami we ordered kai phrai, shrimp pad thai (pad thai kung) and fresh-squeezed orange juice; the chicken-breast kai phrai wasn't dry, and the pad thai ranks among the best in Daegu. With 1 hour of free parking and window seats with mood lamps, Thai Yami is a solid pick for a daytime date meal in Gyo-dong.

A great lunch or dinner spot in Gyodong, Daegu: Thai Yami (타이야미), a Thai and Asian restaurant. It's one of the older, well-loved Thai places in Gyodong.
Where is Thai Yami, and how is the parking?

Thai Yami is on the ground floor of an office-tel building in the middle of Gyodong, Daegu! I guess the name means something like "Thai food is delicious"!
🅿 For parking, use the Hyundai Sun Enville Jungangno office-tel car park, underground or surface, and you get 1 hour free! If you drive to Gyodong and can't get the free weekend parking at City Hall, there's hardly anywhere to park and everything costs a lot, so having parking here is nice!

Seating and atmosphere at Thai Yami
When you walk into Thai Yami, there's a bar table on the left! It has 6 seats, in sets of 2!

Behind the bar table there are three 4-person tables and one 2-person table~ Naver Place says groups of up to 8 are possible!

The table and chairs where we sat looked stylish and upscale, and with plants hanging on the wall it felt like a high-end Southeast Asian restaurant.

For a date, the window seat on the right of the entrance
The most atmospheric seat at Thai Yami is right by the entrance on the right: a mood lamp, a window to look outside, and plants behind you! I think it's the prettiest seat, and it seems like a really good place to come on a date in Gyodong!
Thai Yami lunch menu vs dinner menu

This is the Thai Yami lunch menu~! At lunch you can eat a bit cheaper than at dinner! Pad thai is ₩2,000 cheaper~

And this is the dinner menu! Since it's dinner, there's a wider choice of alcohol than at lunch!!
What we ordered at Thai Yami
- Kai phrai (chicken salad)
- Pad thai
- Fresh-squeezed orange juice

First, cabbage came out as a side dish! The bowl has a Southeast Asian pattern too, which is pretty :)

Isn't the fresh-squeezed orange juice sweet?
Thai Yami's fresh-squeezed orange juice tastes healthy, just like squeezed oranges, and I think the sweetness is natural, with no syrup or sugar added!!

Next, the kai phrai and pad thai we ordered arrived!

Kai phrai with chicken breast: won't it be dry?
Let me start by introducing the kai phrai.

Kai phrai is a signature dish found only at Thai Yami, all handmade, and they say it's the only chicken salad of its kind in the whole country!

Looking at the meat first, all the chicken is grilled chicken breast. I really hate badly cooked chicken breast, so with chicken I only ever eat things like combo cuts, but Thai Yami's kai phrai wasn't dry at all, it was grilled really well and tasted great!

The kai phrai salad was really fresh too. I expected a slightly bitter taste from the vegetables, but it wasn't like that at all, and the dressing was so good it beat my expectations, so please give it a try!

Here's a cross-section of the kai phrai chicken, for reference~

How does Thai Yami's pad thai (pad thai kung) taste?
Next is Thai Yami's signature noodle dish, pad thai! To be exact, it's pad thai kung (with shrimp). It comes with 2 shrimp, plus chili powder, ground peanuts and so on.

It's colorful too: pad thai noodles, bean sprouts, pork, shrimp and other ingredients are arranged beautifully.

The taste was excellent too. I found myself wondering whether anywhere in Daegu makes it this well! Even the pork inside was tender, with great texture and flavor.

Pad thai is best eaten with shrimp, of course. There are 2 big shrimp, and eating them with the noodles blends the textures and flavors, a truly top combination~~
Is Thai Yami a good daytime date lunch spot in Gyodong?
Gyodong has lots of bars, so where do you go for a meal? Where should you go for a daytime date? Thai Yami might be one of the first places that comes to mind. The interior is clean, the atmosphere suits a date, and there are tasty dishes and a variety of drinks too, so I recommend it :)
