Dunchondong Station egg shop for same-day raw egg gyudon: Fresh Farmer

Since getting married, I've fallen in love with cooking at home!!! And in our newlywed kitchen there's one ingredient that must never run out of the fridge: eggs 🥚🥚🥚

But when I think about it, I've always picked eggs at the supermarket by price or size, and never really checked how the hens were raised or when the eggs were laid. Then I found Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store! It's a premium egg brand sold in department stores, and it's also known as "Son Yeon-jae eggs." Best of all, they only sell No. 1 and No. 2 shell-number eggs, and you can even buy eggs laid that same day, so I got curious and went myself haha

Where is Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store?

Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store is a 24-hour shop at 1360 Yangjae-daero, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, in the Olympic Park Foreon shopping arcade, B1 Unit B122. It's a store run directly by Fresh Farmer headquarters, near Dunchondong Station.

It's inside the Olympic Park Foreon arcade, so it's a handy spot to stop by if you live in Gangdong and are out shopping!

Fresh Farmer, the egg brand known from department stores

Fresh Farmer says it's sold in about 25 department store branches nationwide. It also says its eggs are used in Michelin-starred and fine dining restaurants. I mean, eggs have gone premium too now...! hahahaha

Fresh Farmer is also known as "Son Yeon-jae eggs"! I'd recommend it especially to parents who are careful about choosing eggs for baby food or toddler meals!!!

What is the difference between shell No. 1 and No. 2 eggs?

The shell number is the code printed on the eggshell, showing the laying date, the producer's ID and the housing environment number. Honestly, this shell number is what I learned the most about on this visit! I never checked it that closely when buying eggs haha

• Shell No. 1: hens can move around in an outdoor range
• Shell No. 2: hens are raised on the barn floor, not in cages
• Shell No. 3 and 4: caged housing

Fresh Farmer says it only produces and sells No. 1 and No. 2 eggs, and doesn't carry caged No. 3 or 4 eggs.

How do you buy eggs at the Fresh Farmer store?

At Fresh Farmer Olympic Park Foreon Direct Store, you pay at a kiosk and then take the products you want out of the fridge yourself.

Fresh Farmer says it supplies eggs straight from the farm to the store, and always stocks small amounts so they're sold fresh.

When can you buy same-day laid eggs at Fresh Farmer?

The store says products arrive every Tuesday and Thursday after 6 p.m., and if you visit then you can buy same-day laid eggs. That day I brought home No. 1 free-range fertilized eggs and No. 2 animal-welfare fertilized eggs!!!

I didn't plan it, but I visited on a Thursday afternoon and there happened to be same-day laid No. 2 eggs, so I got to take some home. They told me same-day eggs are super fresh with no fishy smell. I thought they'd be great raw, so that evening I made gyudon (beef rice bowl).

I put the same-day Fresh Farmer No. 2 egg raw on top of the gyudon. First, stir-frying the beef for the bowl!

Break the yolk and mix it into the rice and beef, and it adds a rich, nutty, creamy flavor. So good...!! The best gyudon I've ever had >_<

No. 1 vs No. 2 fried eggs: comparing yolk color

The next day I topped Jjapaghetti (black bean instant noodles) with one No. 1 and one No. 2 Fresh Farmer fried egg to compare, and the No. 2 yolk came out a deeper orange.

Ahh... the eggs are so fresh that even a plain fried egg is really delicious

My husband put a fried egg on his kimchi fried rice, and he said there was no fishy smell from the egg at all and that it was definitely tasty!!!

What are the Fresh Farmer egg subscription and 333 membership?

The Fresh Farmer subscription is a service where you choose your delivery date and cycle and get animal-welfare fertilized eggs delivered regularly. Besides buying eggs in the store, they run this subscription service too.

We eat eggs so often that I buy them every time I go shopping.
