Today I couldn't be bothered to cook at home, so I was wondering what to eat, and I'd been craving Japanese food lately, so I looked around and ended up going to Haekbap Amsa (핵밥 암사점) with my husband ;)
Where is Haekbap Amsa and what are its opening hours?
Haekbap Amsa is on the 2nd floor at 766 Ollimpik-ro, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and it's open every day 11:00–21:00 (last order 20:30). Takeout, delivery and reservations are all available.

It's a 1-minute walk from Amsa Station Exit 2, so it's easy to get to, and the menu is varied, so I think it's a good pick if you're hunting for a place to eat in Amsa or near Amsa Station!

Heading up to the 2nd floor, let's go!

Haekbap specializes in home-style rice bowls (donburi) and ramen!

I recently went to Osaka and didn't get to have ramen, but no need to fly to Japan, I can just eat it here! Hahaha
Is Haekbap Amsa okay for dining solo?
The restaurant is compact, clean and bright, which makes it a good spot for eating alone in Gangdong. There were quite a few people dining solo while we were there!

You won't feel awkward coming alone at all, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a solo meal spot in Gangdong 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

They even thoughtfully have hair ties ready.

Oh, and when we visited, Haekbap Amsa was running a receipt review event: write a review and you could take home one of the items below!
- A drink
- 2 pieces of takoyaki (octopus balls)
- 2 pieces of croquette
- 2 pieces of fried chicken
- 1 large fried shrimp
- Mini udon
What's on the menu at Haekbap Amsa?
Beyond rice bowls and ramen, Haekbap Amsa has a huge range of dishes, including mazesoba (brothless mixed noodles), katsu, curry and udon!

The variety is pretty wide. It's a lineup you wouldn't get tired of even if you came every single day.

Everything on the menu looked so good that I couldn't decide,, hahahaha

Both were said to be popular items, so this is what we ordered!!!
- Pork jowl rice bowl ₩11,900
- Karai ramen with fried chicken set ₩15,500
How does the pork jowl rice bowl at Haekbap taste?
The pork jowl rice bowl (₩11,900) at Haekbap Amsa is all about a faint smoky grill flavor and a sweet-salty sauce. The bowl comes with salad, udon broth, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), pickled radish and a rice puff dessert.

It looks amazing right away! Plenty of pork jowl piled on glossy rice, the kind of look that makes your mouth water just looking at it.
On the first bite, the smoky flavor comes up subtly, and honestly that's the real kick. The chewy texture that pork jowl is known for is still there, and it's rich and nutty too.

The sweet-salty sauce goes so well with the rice. My husband took one bite and kept stealing more..^_^
Is the karai ramen with fried chicken set very spicy?
The karai ramen with fried chicken set (₩15,500) at Haekbap Amsa is a set of spicy ramen served with fried chicken. The karai ramen isn't overly spicy, and the broth is rich.

This is the karai ramen with fried chicken set my husband ordered. A combo everyone would like, and seriously insanely delicious.

The fried chicken that came with it is crispy outside and juicy inside, a true master of frying.

The karai ramen is spicy, just like the name says. The broth looks spicy even just from the look of it, right???!!

The soft-boiled egg was perfect too.

It's not overly spicy, and the broth is rich with great depth of flavor, the kind of addictive ramen you keep eating. I want it again,, 🫶🏻 This ramen is totally my style.

My husband tried one piece of the fried chicken and said it's seriously amazing!!!
Complimentary udon near closing time and rice puff dessert

It was close to closing and they had some udon left over, so they gave it to us as a freebie. Thank you Haekbap, yay~ The noodles were springy.

The fried rice cake dessert is brushed with honey, so it was nice as a dessert after the meal. A proper full spread! I'd recommend it as a place to check out in Amsa.
