We went to Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch (짬뽕지존 서오릉점) for lunch, my husband and me! There are plenty of Chinese restaurants near our neighborhood, but there's a reason we drive all the way to Seooreung, you know!

Rich, spicy broth, chewy noodles, free rice refills and even a dessert service: Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch has it all.

Inside Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch and the self-service bar

We came at lunchtime and there were still lots of people coming for Jjamppong Jijeon. There's a separate waiting area, and Catch Table reservations are possible, so at busy times it's worth checking ahead.
The interior is clean and comfortable for eating. You order with the kiosk at your table, which is nice because you can browse the menu slowly and pick what you want!

Once you sit down, they bring pickled mustard greens (jjasai), yellow pickled radish and water. The table also has chili flakes, vinegar, soy sauce and more, so you can season to your taste.
Aprons are self-service, and the self-service bar has extra side dishes along with scissors, tongs, ladles and other tools you need while eating. There's kids' tableware too, which looks handy if you come with children.
And one of my favorite parts: free rice refills! If noodles alone leave you a little short, you can add rice, which makes it a really filling meal 👍

One wall has autographs from celebrities, which is fun to look at. They also run a Naver receipt review event, so join in and get a freebie :)

Dessert corner, restrooms and kids' chairs
There's also a dessert corner where you can have coffee, iced tea and other drinks after your meal. Getting everything from the meal to dessert in one place is another plus! The restrooms are inside the restaurant, with separate men's and women's.

They have kids' chairs too, so come for your family meal without worry!
Menu at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch
As the name suggests, there are many kinds of jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), but you can also enjoy jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), fried rice, tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), mandu (dumplings) and other Chinese dishes.

Jjajang, jjajang rice, jjamppong, jjamppong rice, fried rice, tangsuyuk, jjamjjamyeon (half jjajang, half jjamppong), mandu and more. Especially the jjamppong comes in many varieties, so choosing is fun, and the half-and-half menu is super useful when you can't decide 👏
What the couple ordered
- Jjajangmyeon (regular, large)
- Jjamppong (regular)
- Small sticky-rice tangsuyuk
- Jjamppong mandu
- Soda
We were hungry, so we went on an ordering spree... hehe, I want to eat it again 😋

How is the large jjajangmyeon (regular flavor)?
The jjajangmyeon here has a glossy, sweet-and-salty sauce that clings perfectly to the noodles. The portion is generous, and the noodles are cold-aged, maybe that's why they stayed chewy and didn't turn soggy until the very end!
Everyone makes a noodle ball like this when eating jjajangmyeon, right? Haha. You have to take a huge bite in one go! 😀 I ordered the large size and inhaled it.

How is the regular jjamppong broth?
The regular jjamppong is packed with meat, seafood and fresh vegetables, so the broth is deep and spicy through and through. They say they use 100% domestic chili flakes, and maybe that's why it isn't harsh but cleanly spicy!

No wonder it's famous as a Seooreung favorite 👍

I meant to mix rice into the broth after finishing the noodles, but I was too full... couldn't 🤣 The portion is really generous!
Small sticky-rice tangsuyuk and sweet potato fries
Sticky-rice tangsuyuk is the classic side dish to have with noodles like jjamppong and jjajang!

A crispy outside, chewy sticky-rice coating, and thick, tender meat inside, so generous!

Since you get crispy fried texture and chewy sticky-rice texture together, you have to order it when you come with a group!

It also comes with crispy fried sweet potato, which is a nice little treat.
What does the jjamppong mandu taste like?

The jjamppong mandu is a fried dumpling and one of the dishes I personally was very happy with!

Bite in and you get the spicy jjamppong aroma and juices inside. And finally, a cold glass of cola!
