Fatty summer amberjack sashimi to go in Guryongpo, Pohang: Hoetjip Jin
In short
Hoetjip Jin (횟집진) is a sashimi restaurant between Guryongpo Market and Guryongpo Harbor in Pohang, Gyeongbuk, serving raw fish, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), snow crab and gwamegi (half-dried herring). On the last day of a Pohang trip, a mixed sashimi platter for 3–4 people (50,000 won) from Hoetjip Jin was packed in an insulated cold pack for a lodging in Gyeongju, with thick cuts of halibut, flounder and amberjack plus a generous portion of fins. Even in summer the amberjack was rich enough to rival winter's big amberjack, making Hoetjip Jin a great-value sashimi takeout.

After wrapping up my Pohang trip, I needed sashimi to go since my lodging in Gyeongju was far from any restaurant. I heard there was a place along the way that did both dine-in and takeout really well, so I checked it out! Drumroll for today's spot — Hoetjip Jin (횟집진)!

Hoetjip Jin's location, parking, and hours
Today's spot is Hoetjip Jin in Pohang. They sell all kinds of seafood — sashimi, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup), snow crab, and gwamegi (dried herring/mackerel).
It's located between Guryongpo Market and Guryongpo Harbor, with the Guryongpo public parking lot directly across the street — park there. If you're just picking up takeout and think you can park right in front of the shop, watch out — there's a parking violation CCTV there!! Illegal parking crackdowns have gotten pretty strict lately.
- Thursday–Tuesday 10:30–22:00
- Last order 21:30
- Closed every Wednesday

Turns out Hoetjip Jin has already been featured as a famous restaurant on TV and YouTube! KBS's Superman Is Back, MBN's Saengsaeng Jeongbo Madang, KBS's 6 O'Clock My Hometown, SBS's Hometown Road Trip — it's been on so many shows that anyone in the know already knows it. If it's been on all three major networks, you can trust it's good!!?!

The place has a second floor too, and there were already plenty of people eating inside. Even though I went at a slightly off-peak time, it was already fully booked. Reservations are possible, so I'd recommend booking ahead~!

Takeout menu and the ₩50,000 mixed sashimi for 3–4
Here's the takeout and dine-in menu. For takeout, there's mixed sashimi, red seabream, sea bass, amberjack, mulhoe, snow crab, abalone, sea squirt, spicy fish stew — basically nothing they couldn't pack to go. We ordered the mixed sashimi for 3–4 (₩50,000). It's ₩50,000 but listed as 3-4 servings, so I thought, they're exaggerating a bit haha — but nope,,,, no exaggeration,,, wait till you see the sashimi,,

The order came out quickly, neatly packed with an insulated cold pack. I was planning to bring it back to the lodging to eat, so the cold packing meant it stayed even fresher on the way!

The ₩50,000 mixed sashimi — halibut, flounder, amberjack
Doesn't it look neat and pretty packed?? The fish were halibut, flounder, and amberjack, with radish sprouts and lemon alongside. Remember what I said earlier? Yep. ₩50,000. This is what ₩50,000 worth of sashimi looks like. Such great value. Looking for a good-value sashimi place in Pohang? Hoetjip Jin, no question. They packed it generously full of thick, fresh cuts 🔥🔥
You could tell it was fresh just by looking at it. I used to think amberjack was only good in winter, but after Hoetjip Jin, I realized that's not necessary at all! It was just as fatty and chewy as winter amberjack. I think I'll be eating this often from now on haha

Two dipping sauces and lettuce wraps came along too. Soy sauce, ssamjang, chojang, and wasabi were all included, so we didn't need to buy any extra sauces for the meat we grilled either. (We grilled meat too, and used the wasabi for that too 🤭)

Dipping the amberjack lightly in soy sauce with radish sprouts and wasabi made me not miss winter's prized daebang-eo at all! Thick and glossy, right?
Gotta cheers with soju while eating sashimi!

I tried the halibut too, and there was so much I ate it two pieces at a time! The thickness of the cuts here was just right — not too thick, not too thin. My favorite thickness haha

Plenty of fins, enjoyed with grilled meat at the lodging
We grilled meat at the lodging and enjoyed it together with the sashimi. Another thing that was really great — they gave us tons of fins. Some sashimi places barely give you any, which can feel skimpy, but here it's fins galore. Oh, and since the lodging was so nice, I'll add the info — it's a place called J I in Jacuzzi in Gyeongju.

Every private unit has its own jacuzzi, so it's perfect for a relaxing stay.

It's already been on TV a bunch and is a well-known restaurant, but if you haven't been yet, you should definitely go. Next time I want to try the gwamegi in winter instead of sashimi. Highly recommend Hoetjip Jin as your Guryongpo sashimi spot~!~!
