Tonkatsu spot at Seokchongobun Station: spicy cheddar katsu, Matsumi
In short
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch (마츠미 석촌호수본점) is a tonkatsu and mazesoba (mixed noodles) restaurant near Exit 4 of Seokchongobun Station in Songpa, Seoul. The writer ordered the new spicy cheddar cheese katsu with a highball, plus a mazesoba set with the plain rice swapped for egg rice, all through the table QR code. Matsumi's spicy cheddar cheese katsu is a good lunch pick for people who love cheddar but find rich, greasy flavors too heavy.

I heard Matsumi, a famous tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) spot in Jamsil, had a new spicy cheese katsu, so I went to try it right away! If you love cheese but can't handle a lot of greasy food, I think this will suit you really well, and it goes perfectly with a highball or beer too!

What is Matsumi's new spicy cheddar cheese katsu?
The spicy cheddar cheese katsu is a new item at Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch: a cheddar-loaded pork cutlet with a spicy sauce spread underneath. On my last visit I had the cutlet loaded with cheddar. This time the cutlet sits on a spicy sauce that hits Korean taste buds right in the heart, so I was super excited!

Look at all that cheddar! There's also a heaping cabbage salad, and the portions are big, so lots of students from nearby sports activities come here too.
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch: location and waiting
Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch is 118m from Exit 4 of Seokchongobun Station, so it's an easy lunch spot to find. When I meet friends, we always meet at Exit 4, our "sabeon chingu" (Exit 4 friend) spot. They do mazesoba really well too, so I introduce it to friends hunting for good mazesoba, like a dojang-kkegi (a challenge tour of famous spots).

There are quite a few tables inside, but if you go right at mealtime there may be a wait now and then.

Luckily, today there were 0 teams waiting, so it was fine! Maybe because of the hot weather, a lot of customers were getting takeout too.
How do you order at Matsumi? QR ordering
At Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch, you scan the QR code at each table to open Toss Place and order. Ordering contact-free is much faster, and if you're paying by pay apps or cash, you just tap "pay later" and settle at the counter after the meal, so adding more orders is easy too.

The drink came out first, and the highball (6,0) wet my throat nice and cold~
Spicy cheddar cheese katsu: taste and what comes with it
The spicy cheddar cheese katsu comes on a tray like a full set meal.

It comes with rice, soup and pickled side dishes, which are great for cleansing your palate between bites.

The spicy cheddar katsu is a big portion, and Matsumi is already known for good Jamsil-area tonkatsu, so if you like cheddar, I really hope you'll try it. The spicy sauce underneath means you don't get tired of it until the very end. The cabbage is sliced thin and comes with plenty of black sesame dressing, which goes together great!
Mazesoba set with the rice swapped for egg rice
For the mazesoba set at Matsumi Seokchon Lake Main Branch, I changed the plain rice to egg rice.

They're so good at mazesoba that I always recommend it if a friend hasn't tried it.

The set also includes a tonkatsu, so you get your protein too,

and the egg rice has an omurice (omelet rice) texture, totally soft, so the spoon keeps going back in! The spicy cheddar katsu is tasty, but the mazesoba is totally the GOAT.

The mazesoba comes with plenty of seasoning, so partway through you should sprinkle on the kelp oil (dasima oil) to enjoy a different version, and it's great mixed with rice too, so definitely try it.
