When you spend your days with a little one, time to eat a meal alone and unhurried is precious. It's close to the Gwangalli sea, so a walk after eating is easy, and it serves brunch from the morning, so I was excited even before I got there.

Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is an Australian-style brunch café in Millak-dong. It's close to Gwangalli Beach, so it's a nice stop after a run along the Gwangalli running course, and I heard it's a popular date spot in Millak-dong too. It opens at 8am, which makes it a really good place for breakfast or brunch.

How do you order at Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch?
You order first on the 1st floor, then go up to the 2nd floor. The staff were friendly about explaining things, so even first-timers shouldn't have any trouble.
The exterior already has a lovely mood. It's a clean, stylish building, the kind you'd want to pop into even if you were just walking by. It's close to Gwangalli too, so you can stroll by the sea after your meal.

A menu that works for eating alone
On my solo visit I ordered the Salmon The Famous Benny, mushroom soup and an iced Americano. It was a good-sized combination for one person, and I was happy with it.
Since Famous Benny specializes in Australian brunch, the menu was varied. From eggs Benedict to French toast, salads, soups and coffee, there was so much to choose from that it was hard to decide!

1st-floor tables for 1–2 and 2nd-floor window seats: how's the seating?
The 1st floor has about 4 tables that suit one or two people, and the 2nd floor is the big, bright main space. I ate on the 2nd floor, but the 1st-floor seats looked good for solo diners or anyone dropping in for a light brunch. The whole space is laid out efficiently, so it felt comfortable rather than cramped.

Upstairs opened into a wide, pleasant space. Sunlight poured in through the big windows, and the wood-tone interior and stylish little props made it feel warm.

The tables are spaced generously, so it didn't feel stuffy even when it was busy. At the window seats I could enjoy brunch in the sunshine, and photos came out really pretty too.

Is eating alone in Gwangalli awkward?
Not at all, even though I came alone. There were more solo diners than I expected, and I saw people working on laptops too. Every seat has a power outlet, so it looked like a nice place to spend time over a cup of coffee.

It was crowded, but the staff kept clearing tables and handled orders quickly, so I didn't wait long. The place was bustling, yet the service was kind and the food came out faster than I expected, so I could enjoy my meal.
Iced Americano
The iced Americano wasn't very acidic and had a clean finish. It came out first, and the coffee aroma spread gently. It's easy for anyone to drink, and it went well with brunch.

Above all, what I liked most was how easy it was to eat alone. Lots of other guests were dining solo, so it never felt awkward, and the atmosphere was great for slowly passing time with a coffee.

How does the signature Salmon The Famous Benny taste?
Salmon The Famous Benny is the signature dish: smoked salmon, a poached egg and sabayon sauce on a crispy croissant. The plating was so pretty it made me gasp just looking at it. I chose salmon, and it came with a generous amount of fresh smoked salmon and a hearty helping of fresh vegetables, so the colors alone looked delicious.

Mushroom soup
The mushroom soup looked smooth just by sight. One spoonful and a rich mushroom aroma filled my mouth. It was creamy and nutty, and really good.

The crispy croissant was piled with a soft poached egg and plenty of nutty sabayon sauce. When I broke the egg open, the yolk ran down and made it look even more irresistible.

I took a bite with salmon, egg and sauce together on the croissant, and the flavors were wonderfully balanced. The crunchy texture, soft poached egg, mild salmon and nutty sauce blended naturally, and I immediately understood why it's the signature.

Dipping the bread that came with the mushroom soup made it even more filling. It was a comforting flavor, perfect for whetting the appetite before a meal. The mushroom aroma isn't overpowering, so even kids could eat it without trouble.

Is the portion enough for a meal?
The Salmon The Famous Benny was hearty enough to be a lunch on its own. The salmon was fresh with no fishy taste, and the portion was generous, so I stayed satisfied to the end. I assumed brunch portions would be small, but this was more filling than I expected.

The salad on the side was crisp and fresh. Eating it between bites cleansed my palate and made the whole plate really well balanced. You could feel the care in every item, and the pretty plating made taking photos fun. Brunch lovers should be happy with this lineup.

A walk by the Gwangalli sea after the meal
