Sokcho tofu restaurant for 3 generations: sirloin tofu steak, Yetgoeul
In short
Yetgoeul Sundubu (옛고을순두부) is a 40-year-old soft tofu restaurant in the Konggot Village (콩꽃마을) tofu district on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil, Sokcho. A family with a child and grandparents ordered four dishes at Yetgoeul Sundubu: abalone jjamppong sundubu (spicy seafood soft tofu stew), spicy sundubu, chodang sundubu (mild soft tofu) and sirloin tofu steak. Everyone, from the child to the grandparents, cleaned their bowls, so Yetgoeul Sundubu is a solid Sokcho pick when three generations want different dishes.

Yetgoeul Sundubu (옛고을순두부) in Sokcho is a soft tofu spot that even my kid ate well at!
Where to eat in Sokcho with a child and your parents?

Picking a restaurant is the trickiest part of a Sokcho trip with your parents, right? You have to suit a child's taste and find food that's gentle on the parents' stomachs, so I was worried about it a lot.

Yetgoeul Sundubu, the Sokcho soft tofu restaurant we stopped at this time, was so satisfying that everyone from the kid to the parents left with an empty bowl.

From nutty chodang sundubu (soft tofu made with seawater) to spicy abalone jjamppong sundubu and the tofu steak kids love, it has everything ready, so it's perfect for visiting as a family!

Why we chose Yetgoeul Sundubu in Sokcho's tofu village

I picked Yetgoeul Sundubu because I heard it's a traditional restaurant that has made its own tofu for 40 years. We were passing the Konggot Village tofu district on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil in Sokcho when we turned in. The private lot in front is really spacious, so we walked in with no parking worries.

Inside, the restaurant is huge with lots of tables, so it would suit group gatherings too.

Yetgoeul Sundubu has a dedicated dog-friendly room completely separate from the main hall. People who come with pets can eat comfortably without worrying about others, and I really liked that setup.
What four of us ordered at Yetgoeul Sundubu, plus the pot rice

We wanted to try a variety, so we ordered four dishes.
- Abalone jjamppong sundubu (soft tofu stew in spicy seafood broth)
- Spicy sundubu
- Chodang sundubu
- Sirloin tofu steak

We were dipping the side dishes, salted squid and grilled tofu, lightly in soy sauce, and before we got bored the pot rice arrived.

The moment I lifted the lid, the glossy rice with sweet pumpkin and jujubes gave off a faintly sweet aroma.
How spicy is the abalone jjamppong sundubu, and how was the kids' dish?

The abalone jjamppong sundubu was the one I was most looking forward to, and I was surprised to find two big, fresh abalone in it!

The webfoot octopus and lightly blanched squid were tender and chewy, and the refreshing seafood broth had soaked deep into the tofu. The soft, silky tofu melted in the mouth with no beany smell at all. By my standard the spice level is a step below Shin Ramyun, so my parents ate it comfortably, enjoying the kick like a hangover soup.

The spicy sundubu isn't overwhelmingly hot either, so unless you really can't handle spice, I think you can eat it easily.

The sirloin tofu steak my child ate was very moist and soft inside, maybe because of the tofu in it, so it was really easy for small kids to chew. It was nutty and sweet, and my kid polished off a whole bowl of rice.

The chodang sundubu was mild with no harsh flavors, so it was great to share with my parents.

Everyone can pick the dish they want, so it's a perfect Sokcho soft tofu restaurant for a family trip, don't you think? :)
Who I recommend Yetgoeul Sundubu to
- People looking for a Sokcho breakfast spot, since it opens early at 7 a.m.
- People who want a place to eat comfortably with a pet without worrying about others
- People who want spicy, seafood-packed jjamppong sundubu and nutty pot rice

Overall the ingredients were fresh and you could feel the care, and I was glad we stopped here on our Sokcho trip.

Business hours and break time may change slightly depending on the season and on-site conditions, so I recommend checking before you visit.
