How does the wait work at Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap?

Even though the restaurant is huge, there can be a wait on weekends and at lunch or dinner time. If there's a line, register on the tablet at the entrance! There's a separate waiting area too, so waiting looked comfortable.

Annex seating for groups

There's a separate annex behind the main building, and when I asked a staff member, they said it's the group seating. If you're coming on a group trip or planning a group meal and need a restaurant with group seating, I recommend Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap 🙏

The rule is one menu item per adult, and extra side dishes, water and so on are self-service (small plates, aprons, takeout containers, etc.). Guests with babies or children are asked to tidy up the table a bit after eating for the next customers.

For parking, use the private lot in front of the restaurant. It's big and well laid out, so parking was easy. About 40 cars fit in front, and it's free.

Floor-to-ceiling windows facing the rose garden

As a big restaurant, it was very spacious and pleasant, and the view through the windows is lovely, so it would work for a date as well as for family trips or groups.

One whole side of the dining hall is a huge window, which made it feel wonderfully open, and the nicely tended rose garden outside is right in view, so it's a bright, fresh setting for a meal~ Thanks to the wood tones, white and clean lighting it felt very tidy, and the hygiene from the floor to the tables seemed well managed, so even people who are picky about cleanliness could eat without worry! The atmosphere was really good 💚

After you pay, there's coffee to have as a after-meal drink and a variety of souvenirs for sale, so do take a look!!

What's on the Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap self-bar?

The self-bar has side dishes, a variety of ssam, abalone porridge, seaweed soup, sikhye (sweet rice drink), japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork). The first side dishes are brought by staff, but extra ones are at the self-bar, so help yourself~

Overview of the self-bar at Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap

By the way, the side dishes the staff brought were the basic ones, and the self-bar has a wide variety, so if you want to try more, go visit it~ There were lots of kinds, and every one was neat and clean-looking, so it was nice to pick from them!

Side dish section of the self-bar

Besides side dishes there are many kinds of ssam, abalone porridge, seaweed soup, sikhye, japchae and even jeyuk-bokkeum.. can you believe you get to eat all of this?

There's no separate charge for the self-bar, and anyone can use it with one order per person, so enjoy it! The abalone porridge was delicious, and from the japchae to the pork, honestly every item was great,, the ssam were fresh through and through 💚

Aprons are also at the self-bar, so if you need one, please grab it there :)

If you leave self-bar side dishes uneaten, a ₩5,000 fee is added, so take only what you can eat!

Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap menu and how to order

The restaurant sells a wide range of items, including regular meals, boneless menus, sides, drinks and alcohol, and every table has a tablet, so ordering was easy. I liked that there's a menu with photos too!

They're currently running an event where you get a Hershey's cookie for leaving a review, so if you enjoyed your meal, leave a review and get your cookie!!

Side dishes served and picked from the self-bar

The basic side dishes were seaweed snacks (gim), broccoli, salad, ssamjang (dipping paste), soft tofu, soy sauce, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and ssam. If you want more than what the staff bring, just use the self-bar~

What I got from the self-bar was seasoned radish strips, braised lotus root, pickled chili peppers and stuffed cucumber kimchi!! There were more kinds, but I figured I'd leave some, so I only brought what I could eat~~ Every side dish was neat and tasty, and I felt I could finish a bowl of rice with just the sides!! This place does side dishes well 😋

The abalone porridge was also from the self-bar, and it was rich, deep and nutty, and I really enjoyed it~ It had so much abalone in it that you wouldn't need to buy abalone porridge separately, and the quality was really good,, can they really make money giving this out?

There was also jeyuk-bokkeum and japchae, but we only took the japchae! It was freshly made and hot, so it tasted even better. Not many places serve japchae,, this place is so generous, really generous✨

How was the mackerel set for 2 and grilled tilefish?

What we ordered at Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap was the signature aged-kimchi mackerel braise with abalone stone-pot rice for 2, plus grilled tilefish (okdom), which you can only really try in Jeju!!

Abalone stone-pot rice

The abalone stone-pot rice here is a healthy pot of fluffy, sticky rice topped with beans, abalone, zucchini and hijiki (tot, a type of seaweed)! Because it comes in a stone pot, you can finish with nurungji tea (scorched-rice tea, sungnyung), which I loved, and it's not just beans, zucchini and hijiki, there's sliced abalone on top, so you get a chewy texture and the nutty, deep flavor of abalone. Isn't this basically health food~~💚

Aged-kimchi mackerel braise

Well-fermented aged kimchi and plump mackerel in harmony, a braise that any Korean is bound to love! The aged kimchi soaked in rich, spicy-sweet seasoning and the oily richness of the mackerel, what more is there to say~😋

It's not just kimchi that has been sitting around, it's deeply flavored aged kimchi simmered whole, so the texture was soft and so tender it tore apart easily. The sourness of the aged kimchi and the spicy-sweetness of the braising sauce didn't sit apart but soaked all the way through, and the mackerel was plump with big, moist flesh and little fishy smell, so it was clean-tasting yet maximized the savory depth!!

The seasoning isn't harsh, it has a refreshing savory depth from good ingredients and a pleasant sweetness, so I really enjoyed it! The mackerel is good on its own, but eating it with the aged kimchi gives a richer taste, so try them together, and wrapping it in ssam makes a healthy, filling meal, so I recommend trying it different ways in a wrap❤

Grilled tilefish

If you come to Jeju, you have to eat grilled tilefish!! True to its title as the queen of fish, it had a refined savory taste and a chewy, springy texture~ Maybe because it's a bit pricier, it was very clean-tasting with no fishy smell, and the more I chewed, the more the sweet, deep savoriness of tilefish came through, so I enjoyed it even more haha

It's good on its own, but dipped in the chili soy sauce that came with it, it was salty and even better. Wrap it in ssam, wrap it in gim, try it different ways!

Even the finishing nurungji tea,, a really clean and perfect meal!

Outdoor garden for a walk before or after eating

On its large grounds, the restaurant keeps an outdoor garden where pretty flowers bloom each season, so it was nice for a stroll or for taking photos before or after the meal~ It's my first time at a restaurant with a garden this size, so I was amazed and impressed🙏

Is Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap worth visiting?

There's clearly a reason crowded places are crowded. You can enjoy everything from the main dish to lots of side dishes at a good price, which made it even more satisfying~ 😘 The restaurant was big and clean, the parking lot is good, the staff were kind, the food was tasty and the view was great! If you're looking for a good restaurant in Jungmun, Jeju, I recommend Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap.
