Yangkkochi Daejang (양꼬치대장), a great fresh lamb skewer spot near Cheolsan Station! I went to Cheolsan for lamb skewers, and here's my introduction to this place. You grill the skewers yourself over charcoal, and there are Chinese-style dishes to go with drinks too, like mala xiangguo (spicy stir-fry), guobaorou (crispy sweet-and-sour pork) and jisamseon (stir-fried eggplant, potato and peppers)!

Yangkkochi Daejang is open Sun–Thu 13:00–24:00, and Fri–Sat from 13:00 until 00:30 the next day. You can reserve through Naver, and there's no parking, so you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.

How to get to Yangkkochi Daejang from Cheolsan Station

Yangkkochi Daejang is a 5-minute walk from Cheolsan Station. It's in the building behind McDonald's!

Inside, it has a clean, tidy lamb skewer restaurant feel. Every table has a charcoal grill and a vent, so no smell clinging to your clothes, which I love! The tables aren't crammed together either, so it works for hanging out with friends or for a company dinner.

Free side dishes and spices at Yangkkochi Daejang

The side dishes are peanuts, zha cai (pickled mustard stem), pickled onions and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) ✨ The kkakdugi was so good! And I absolutely love pickled onions, and these were tasty! Sides: pass.

The table also has spices for dipping your skewers: spicy powder, cumin (zira), curry sauce and garlic salt, so you can pick whatever you like. Cumin is a must with lamb skewers, right?

How do Daejang skewers taste from the auto-rotating grill?

You grill the skewers yourself over charcoal, and the grill rotates automatically, which is so convenient. I once went to a lamb skewer place with a manual grill and burned everything, so auto is the best! You don't need to cook them until they're dry; once there's no pink left, you can eat them right away! Maybe because so many people overcook them, there are signs all over the restaurant telling you to eat as soon as the pink is gone 🤣
