Cheese katsu, loin katsu and cold soba: every dish was a success!

I visited Yangjae Katsu (양재카츠), a tonkatsu spot in Yangjae-dong, Seocho, that has a great reputation. I'd heard it's loved by local residents and office workers nearby, and sure enough, there's a reason for that! I ordered cheese katsu, loin katsu and cold soba, and even eaten at home, it was as satisfying as eating in the restaurant.

If you're looking for a good tonkatsu place near Yangjae Station or thinking about what to get for takeout, take a look :)

You can park in front of the restaurant, but the space is limited. I'd recommend calling ahead to ask about parking before you go!

Yangjae Katsu interior and seating

Tables at Yangjae Katsu are spaced widely, and there are both solo seats and group seating. It was lunchtime when I visited and there were lots of customers, but it never felt chaotic or crowded, probably because of the wide spacing and the pleasant space! Whether you come alone or with a group, it's an easy place to visit anytime.

They also run a review event, so take pretty photos, join in and get tasty curry or a drink! ♥♥

How well is Yangjae Katsu takeout packed?

The takeout was packed carefully, piece by piece, so nothing got messy. The tonkatsu was neatly wrapped, and the salad, sauce and soba broth came in separate containers, so I could enjoy it at home as if it had just come out. The crispiness of the cutlet especially stayed intact, so I'd give the takeout 100% satisfaction!

Choosing what to order at Yangjae Katsu

The menu is varied, and the perilla oil soba was a first for me, so it caught my eye haha. Reading the reviews, almost every dish had glowing recommendations, so choosing was so hard..

How does the Yangjae Katsu cold soba taste?

The cold soba has a clean broth with good depth of flavor, and the buckwheat noodles were chewy. Okay, now let me introduce the dishes haha! Cold soba first! In weather as hot as lately, cold soba is a must-have.

The chilled broth was clean yet rich in flavor, and the buckwheat noodles kept a springy, chewy texture.

Eating cold soba between bites of tonkatsu refreshed my mouth, and the whole combination was really good.

Rich tonkatsu with cool soba is a combination that never fails :) Firm, chewy buckwheat noodles and a sweet, cooling broth: the cold soba here was so delicious!

Is the Yangjae Katsu loin katsu crispy outside and juicy inside?

The loin katsu was crispy outside and moist inside, with a fair amount of juiciness preserved. Just looking at the neatly cut loin katsu is healing haha. The more I chewed, the more the flavor of the meat came through. The crispy-outside, moist-inside texture is so my style..♥

The ratio of fat to lean meat was just right, so it was tender without being dry, and the batter was thin and not overdone, so it wasn't greasy and the natural flavor of the meat really came through! The meaty aroma with every bite was so delicious, I could cry.

Is the Yangjae Katsu cheese katsu still good as takeout?

Because it was takeout, the cheese didn't stretch, but it didn't harden either and was soft and rich. Last, the cheese katsu! Since it was takeout, it didn't stretch with chopsticks the way it does fresh out of the fryer, but the cheese itself must be good quality, because it didn't harden and was soft, nutty and delicious.

Half the cutlet is packed with cheese, and it pairs perfectly with the tonkatsu sauce!

The cheese's nutty richness blended well with the mild pork, so it wasn't greasy and I could enjoy it to the end.

Is Yangjae Katsu takeout worth ordering again?

Even as casual takeout to eat at home, the food quality at Yangjae Katsu was really good! If I lived closer, I'd always get takeout from this place T_T I highly recommend Yangjae Katsu to anyone looking for tasty tonkatsu in Yangjae-dong or wanting to enjoy good tonkatsu at home as takeout! Next time I really want to try the tenderloin katsu too, so I'm 100% coming back haha.
