Yeoksam Station burger revisit for the milkshake & pastrami: Daily Fix

Daily Fix Gangnam Main Branch is a handmade burger restaurant about a 7-minute walk from Yeoksam Station Exit 3 in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer went back to Daily Fix for the milkshake they loved on the first visit, this time ordering a pastrami sandwich (15,900 won) and a cheeseburger (8,900 won) with two milkshakes. The pastrami sandwich, piled so high with meat it spilled over, was the highlight, and the Daily Fix Gangnam Main Branch milkshake is worth ordering again.

Eel bowl spot by Yeoksam Station: soy-brush sakedon dinner, Yangsando

Yangsando Yeoksam is a Nagoya-style hitsumabushi (grilled eel rice bowl) restaurant near Exit 3 of Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul, that also serves rice bowls such as sakedon (salmon rice bowl) and butadon (pork rice bowl). Over dinner with a friend, the writer shared a 17,000-won sakedon eaten by brushing soy sauce over the salmon and the signature 27,000-won hitsumabushi, and the full tray with steamed egg, mini soba and salad felt generous. For eel and salmon rice bowls at a reasonable price in Gangnam, Yangsando Yeoksam is a good choice.

Seocho Korean restaurant for cheese chicken stew: Seocho Jeonggye

Seocho Jeonggye is a Korean restaurant near Exit 8 of Seocho Station in Seoul, serving dakbokkeumtang (spicy braised chicken stew) and potato pancakes. With the bone-in stew sold out, two friends ordered the one-person spicy cheese boneless chicken stew (15,000 won), the regular-level boneless chicken stew (13,000 won) and the Jeonggye potato pancake (17,000 won). Seocho Jeonggye's spicy level turned out milder than its name, and the thick Jeonggye potato pancake with its dipping sauce was the highlight.

Apgujeong kappo dinner for two: gyukatsu sando & sushi, Gatpo Karin

Gatpo Karin is a kappo-style Japanese restaurant on the 4th floor of a building near Exit 5 of Apgujeongnodeo Station in Gangnam, Seoul. At dinner with a friend we ordered a Hanwoo striploin gyukatsu sando (beef cutlet sandwich), a special sushi platter and truffle Hanwoo striploin jjapaghetti, for a total of ₩145,000. Gatpo Karin is on the pricey side, but it is a good spot for a range of Japanese dishes and drinks in an atmospheric room.

Songpanaru pub: spicy gopchang hot pot & scallion takoyaki, Horanggul

Horanggul Bangi Branch (호랑이굴 방이점) is a gopchang (beef small intestine) hot pot pub in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. Dinner was a spicy gopchang hot pot with the two-serving gopchang option, rice, green onion bomb takoyaki and Japanese udon noodles for 49,600 won in total, and the highlights were the chewy gopchang, big chunks of tofu and the wide udon noodles that soak up the broth. Horanggul Bangi Branch is a good pick in Bangi-dong when you want drinking snacks and a full meal from one pot.

Double sirloin katsu & wasabi dinner in Gangnam: Cheongdam Kkatsu

Cheongdam Kkatsu Gangnam-gu Office Station Branch (청담까츠 강남구청역점) is a pork cutlet restaurant on the ground floor of SK Herb Blue, 12m from Exit 2 of Gangnam-gu Office Station in Gangnam, Seoul. For dinner the writer ordered the handmade aged double sirloin katsu (18,000 won), spicy katsu nabe (14,000 won) and udon (8,000 won), alternating between sirloin cutlet with sauce and wasabi and katsu nabe in broth. Cheongdam Kkatsu is a safe choice when you want a light, not-too-greasy pork cutlet alongside a soup dish.

Jamsil bakery takeout: garlic bagel & freezing guide at Okuku Bakery

Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch (오쿠쿠베이커리 잠실본점) is a yellow-fronted bakery café near Exit 2 of Songpanaru Station in Songpa, Seoul. The writer took home a plain kkurutwi (fried croissant), café bun salt bread, milk cream salt bread, a garlic bagel and a rocher madeleine (₩3,800–₩5,500 each) and tried them one by one at home. The storage and freezing guide tucked into the bag was especially useful. Okuku Bakery is a good Jamsil bakery when you want to take several kinds of bread home and share them.

Gangnam Station sashimi under a glass roof with abalone: Damiseon

Damiseon Gangnam Station Branch is a sashimi and seafood restaurant on the B1 level of Daewoo Dossieebit Building 1, near Exit 5 of Gangnam Station in Seocho, Seoul. At dinner the writer ordered the live fish set for two (₩80,000): sea bream and large halibut sashimi, blanched abalone, blanched octopus and soy-marinated shrimp arrived together on a big wooden tray, followed by grilled saury, fried shrimp, maki and seodeori-tang (fish-bone stew). For anyone who wants to try a bit of everything, sashimi and seafood alike, on one table, the Damiseon Gangnam Station Branch live fish set is a well-composed choice.

Seoul Korean BBQ at Guui Station: charcoal pork ribs & belly, Ssamchae

Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal (쌈채솥뚜껑삼겹살) is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant in an apartment shopping arcade in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, near Guui Station Exit 4. On a return visit, the writer grilled 2 servings of charcoal pork ribs (34,000 won) on a wire grill, switched to an iron plate for 1 extra serving of pork belly (17,000 won), and finished with spicy minari kalguksu (7,000 won). Getting pork ribs and pork belly on two different grills is what makes Ssamchae Sotttukkeong Samgyeopsal worth the trip.

Garosu-gil Italian lunch course plus wood-fired margherita: Casamil

Casamil Sinsa Garosu-gil is a wood-fired pizza and Italian restaurant on the ground floor of La Casa Hotel on Garosu-gil, near Sinsa Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekday, the writer ordered the 39,000 won per person lunch course, with whole squid ink risotto as the main, and added a 27,000 won wood-fired margherita pizza, eating through each course from kabocha squash soup to yogurt ice cream. The Casamil lunch course with an added margherita pizza is a handy order when you want to try both risotto and wood-fired pizza in one meal.

Gopchang grill in Songpa with a first makchang tasting: Midang

Midang Hanwoo Gopchang is a Korean beef (hanwoo) gopchang grill near Police Hospital Station and Garak Market in Songpa, Seoul. Over dinner with friends, the writer ordered 250g each of gopchang, daechang and makchang (24,000–25,000 won) to compare the three textures. They also enjoyed a first taste of makchang, the dipping sauce, chive salad and 4,000-won kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice. Midang Hanwoo Gopchang suits anyone who wants to try several offal cuts at once and finish with fried rice.
