Jamsil bakery takeout: garlic bagel & freezing guide at Okuku Bakery

In short

Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch (오쿠쿠베이커리 잠실본점) is a yellow-fronted bakery café near Exit 2 of Songpanaru Station in Songpa, Seoul. The writer took home a plain kkurutwi (fried croissant), café bun salt bread, milk cream salt bread, a garlic bagel and a rocher madeleine (₩3,800–₩5,500 each) and tried them one by one at home. The storage and freezing guide tucked into the bag was especially useful. Okuku Bakery is a good Jamsil bakery when you want to take several kinds of bread home and share them.

Bread taken home from Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch

I couldn't skip the salt bread or the kkurutwi, so I took them home to enjoy one by one.

Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch (오쿠쿠베이커리 잠실본점) has more than salt bread: kkurutwi (a fried-croissant-style pastry), bagels and madeleines too. So I stopped by to pack up a bit of everything.

Yellow exterior and duck characters: an easy-to-find Jamsil bakery

I found Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch while searching for Jamsil salt bread reviews. The bright yellow door and awning go so well with the duck characters on the windows. The exterior stands out from far away, so it was easy to find, and there was a sign by the entrance introducing each floor.

Inside, even the bread display is done in yellow tile. Wooden baskets, shelves and little duck dolls are scattered around, so I ended up browsing the props while picking out bread.

The characters also appear on the takeout boxes and tote bags, which made even the small details fun to look at.

What's on the 1st-floor display?

The 1st floor of Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch has everything from basic breads to sweet desserts. I wandered around slowly, and with so many kinds I had a hard time deciding.

Each bread has a different shape and topping, so it was fun to look at them one by one. Croissants and madeleines, which I usually like, caught my eye, and there were several kinds of salt bread too, so choosing seems like half the fun.

The 3rd floor was marked as a rooftop. I got takeout this time, but next time I'd like to sit and eat and try the upper floors. It's worth remembering if you want a Songpanaru Station café where you can rest for a bit under the sky.

Rules to know if you want to sit on weekends

At the time of my visit, the weekend notice at Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch said that at busy times it's one drink per person, one seat per person, and a maximum of 2 hours. There was also a notice for an event offering one Americano or tea for a Naver photo review. If you plan to sit, check the conditions before ordering.

Kkurutwi, salt bread, garlic bagel and rocher madeleine: what I picked and prices

Looking at the display at Okuku Bakery Jamsil Main Branch, there were plenty of choices, from basic breads to cream-filled ones. I came for Jamsil salt bread but ended up eyeing the other breads too.

Plain kkurutwi and chocolate cream kkurutwi sat side by side, and I spotted the café bun salt bread and milk cream salt bread too, so I picked those together.

Several breads picked out on a tray

Before I knew it, I had a whole pile of breads.

  • Plain kkurutwi ₩5,500
  • Café bun salt bread ₩4,800
  • Milk cream salt bread ₩4,500
  • Garlic bagel ₩5,400
  • Rocher madeleine ₩3,800
  • Cream cheese portion ₩1,500

I mixed sweet ones with ones that are good savory. Besides kkurutwi, there was cream-filled salt bread and chocolate-coated madeleines, so the tray filled up fast as I chose.

The store also had a notice saying it uses Rescure Charentes-Poitou AOP butter.

How it tasted at home, and the storage guide in the bag

With the packing done, I headed outside. The Okuku Bakery brand introduction included in the bag told the story of the duck family characters and explained the ingredients used in the bread.

I brought home several kinds and ate them one by one, and overall I really enjoyed them. Being able to take them out and eat comfortably at home made me glad I got takeout.

How does Okuku Bakery explain bread storage?

Inside the paper bag from Okuku Bakery was a guide on storage and how to eat the bread at its best. The paper bag with the duck character was cute too, and the guide separates how to eat cream-filled breads from non-cream ones, which made it easy to follow.

It recommends eating the bread on the day of purchase, and it also explains how to freeze and thaw leftovers. When you take home a lot of bread, a guide like this really helps when you eat it later.

A day of looking around the yellow shop and its cute props, then enjoying lots of different breads at home. If I ever need to pick up bread near Songpanaru Station, I'd like to stop by again and try other kinds.
