It was a rainy day and I wanted a steaming hot bowl of ramen near Konkuk Univ. Station, so I headed to Sonoki Ramen! It's close to Exit 6, so it's easy to get to, and there are plenty of set menus and side dishes too.

It's on the 2nd floor, so just head up the stairs.

Sonoki Ramen's interior and seating
The shop was pretty full inside, and delivery orders kept coming in too. Between the dine-in crowd and all the deliveries, it felt like a popular ramen spot in the Konkuk Univ. area.

There are tables for 2 and for 4. The shop itself is on the small side, so it's more of a cozy, compact place to eat than a spacious, relaxed one. Most ramen shops are like that, right? It can get crowded depending on when you go, so keep that in mind!

What I ordered on a rainy day

- Oolong tea ₩3,000
- Ramune (Japanese soda) ₩3,500

Signature Sonoki Ramen: how is the broth on a rainy day?
Sonoki Ramen (₩11,800) seems to be the signature dish here, so it felt like a good pick for a first visit. A steaming bowl of ramen is just what you think of on a rainy day! The broth was deep and made for a hearty meal. The standard toppings are garlic, green onion, a soft-boiled egg, menma (seasoned bamboo shoots) and chashu (braised pork slices).

Is the extra smoky chashu worth it?
I added 2 extra chashu slices (₩2,500) to the Sonoki Ramen. They're sliced thin, so they were easy to eat together with the noodles, and I loved the subtle charred, smoky flavor. Eaten with the broth, they added even more depth to the ramen. If you like chashu, I'd recommend adding some!

Oolong tea with the ramen
The oolong tea (₩3,000) at Sonoki Ramen has no sweetness at all, just a clean, plain oolong. If you'd rather have something easy to sip with your meal than a sugary drink, it should suit you well!

Is Sonoki Ramen a good-value ramen shop near Konkuk Univ. Station?
If you're looking for a good-value ramen shop near Konkuk Univ. Station, I'd recommend Sonoki Ramen. Besides Sonoki Ramen there's miso ramen, mazemen and rice bowls, plus set menus, so I imagine it's popular with students around Konkuk Univ. It was a good candidate to keep in mind whenever you're craving ramen in the area!
