Suwon rice bowl restaurant with weekday lunch sets: Horangigul

In short

Horangigul Timevillas Suwon is a Japanese-style rice bowl and hotpot restaurant in the 3rd-floor food hall of Timevillas at Lotte Department Store in Suwon, Gyeonggi. On a weekday lunch on the first day of a vacation with parents, the writer had the grilled butadon set, the katsudon set and the original gyudon set, which came with mini udon, salad, fried shrimp and egg, so no extra side orders were needed. Single-serving hotpots make Horangigul Timevillas Suwon good for solo diners too, and free parking after the meal makes it an easy weekday lunch stop.

Hi, it's Meokbohui 🐻 This week is my vacation with my parents, so we've been eating lots of good food on weekday lunches! The first stop on day one of our vacation was Horangigul (호랑이굴), already famous as a top spot at Timevillas in Lotte Department Store Suwon, and even cheaper if you come at lunch 🐅

Horangigul Timevillas Suwon: location and opening hours

  • 📍 Location: 3rd floor, Timevillas Suwon
  • 🕖 Hours: daily 10:30-22:00
  • 🅿️ Free parking available

Horangigul Timevillas Suwon is in the 3rd-floor food hall of Timevillas at Lotte Department Store Suwon. After you eat, you can get free parking time, so parking and dining are both comfortable ➿

Inside Horangigul: seating for solo diners and families

Interior of Horangigul Timevillas Suwon

The moment you walk in, it doesn't feel like Suwon Station, right! The Suwon Station Rodeo Street area feels a bit unpleasant, but the Timevillas branch is well kept, prettily decorated and easy to park at, so it's even better to stop by when you come with family ✨

Outdoor table seating at Horangigul with a Timevillas atmosphere

There are also outdoor tables where you can enjoy the Timevillas atmosphere ➿ Weekends are crowded, so I usually visit on weekdays, and it's popular even at weekday lunch! There's a good mix of 2- to 4-person tables, so it works for eating alone or coming with family.

Horangigul Menu and Weekday Lunch Specials

Horangigul menu board

Here's why I recommend it as a Suwon Station lunch spot ✨ There's a weekday lunch special ➿ Every dish comes as a set (jeongsik), so besides the main you get filling sides too!

  • ✔️ Gopchang hotpot ₩17,500
  • ✔️ Daechang hotpot ₩16,500
  • ✔️ Rice bowls ₩14,900-18,900

Above all, hotpot is one of those dishes that's hard to eat alone, but Horangigul sells single-serving hotpots, so you can happily dine solo, la-la-la 🍽️

Grilled Butadon Set: Like a Fancy Pork Bulgogi Rice Bowl

Horangigul grilled butadon set on the table

Grilled butadon (pork rice bowl) set. Pork neck marinated in sauce, then cooked over a strong open flame until almost charred: a powerful rice bowl. I fell for it on my last visit, so I ordered it again. Order it as a set and you get lots of sides, from fried shrimp to salad, so great value!

It feels like eating a fancy pork bulgogi dish (dwaeji bulbaek), so it's a Japanese menu item that tastes kind of Korean! Horangigul's meat sauce is seriously good, and the meat and sauce go together so well!!!!!

Katsudon Set: Delicious Even Just Mixing the Rice

Katsudon set. You can't skip the pork cutlet when it comes to Japanese food! I really love pork cutlet, so of course I couldn't skip the katsudon ✨ The sauce under the cutlet is so well made that the rice alone is delicious when mixed in, and then the cutlet on top is pure bliss.

It's filling and great value, a must-eat for weekday lunch ✨

A bite of pork cutlet with katsudon sauce and rice

The cutlet is crispy, and the katsudon sauce and rice underneath are sweet, soft and moist in one bite! It melts in your mouth, so kids would love it too 🍚

Horangigul original gyudon set spread

Original Gyudon Set: The No. 1 Best Seller

Original gyudon (beef rice bowl) set. The essence of Japanese rice bowls: mild, tender beef simmered in a special tsuyu (soy-based broth).

Gyudon topped with beef simmered in tsuyu

Gyudon, known as the beef rice bowl ➿ It's Horangigul's No. 1 best seller, so anyone will like it after one order! Beef can't possibly taste bad, right 🍚 It's mild yet clean, and because it's beef the texture is great too!!

Mini udon and fried shrimp sides that come with the set
Horangigul set with salad and egg on the side

Order the set and you get everything from mini udon to salad, fried shrimp and egg, so you can try a bit of everything Japanese without ordering extra sides. If you're having lunch near Suwon Station on a weekday, Horangigul is a definite recommendation 🐅
