Windshield oil film remover tested at a self car wash: AutoGrooming

As the weather warmed up, I finally did the car wash I had been putting off. This time, along with cleaning the exterior, I tried AutoGrooming Oil Film Remover on the windshield too.

Why use an oil film remover during a self car wash?

I usually put off washing the car because it feels like a hassle, and I never got as far as dealing with the oil film. Recently, the wiper vibration and noise had been bothering me, so I hoped removing the film might help.

Do you need to prepare a towel separately?

AutoGrooming came with both the oil film remover and a microfiber towel. Even someone like me, who is not used to washing cars, did not need to prepare a separate work towel or sponge, which was handy. It was listed as available through Naver Smart Store.

The included microfiber towel felt better quality than I expected. I thought it would still come in useful after this job too.

What order did I use it on the windshield?

First, I cleaned the car glass surface thoroughly.

After foaming every corner to remove the grime, I squeezed out the AutoGrooming Oil Film Remover.

I had heard it works better while a little water is still left on the surface, so I spread the product with the included microfiber towel and rubbed the windshield.

What changed as I rubbed it in?

At first, the product felt like it was lifting slightly. After repeating the same process about 4–5 times, it changed to feeling as though it was gripping the glass. Seeing that change made me feel the oil film had been removed, and it was convenient to be able to tell the condition visually as I worked.

After removing the oil film, I finished the car wash with a water-repellent coating. Taking care of the windshield maintenance I had been putting off left me feeling refreshed, like I had finally finished overdue homework.
