Grilling mackerel at home is honestly a whole ordeal — the smell, the smoke, the cleanup after, ugh. So today I headed out for a proper grilled fish spread at Hwaddeugeuro Gan Godeungeo haha.
Here they grill the mackerel in a huge wood-fired oven, so the outside comes out golden while the inside stays juicy — it made me want rice immediately~ If you're looking for a grilled fish spot in Anyang's Bisan-dong and you love mackerel, pay attention!

Grilled fish easily ends up burnt outside and dry inside if you're not careful, but this one's cooked in a wood-fired oven so the skin gets properly golden while the inside stays super moist! The texture difference between the outside and inside is really noticeable — wood-fired really is different. If you're after a good Korean restaurant near Indeokwon, I'd definitely recommend this.

Hwaddeugeuro is located in Bisan-dong, so it's a great pick when you're craving Korean food in Anyang. It's also easy to get to from Anyang Sports Complex, so it works well for group get-togethers, family meals, or dinner with friends! Grilled fish especially is a menu that pretty much everyone likes regardless of age, so it also seemed like a good spot to bring your parents haha. Since we love mackerel and grilled fish in general, we were already excited before even stepping inside~!

A cafe-like dining room with a Dragon Ball figure display
Walking in, the interior was bigger and cleaner than I expected — no worries bringing a bigger group along, so if you're scouting a spot for a family meal or a group gathering near Anyang Sports Complex, check this place out!

There's an even nicer space toward the back — it honestly felt like walking into a cafe! You'd expect an old-school Korean diner vibe from a grilled fish restaurant, but it's clean and modern throughout, which I loved.
Looking around the place, I found cute cat figures, a polar bear statue, and even a display case full of Dragon Ball figures. It's such an unexpected touch of interior design for a grilled fish specialist, and it made for fun browsing. Visiting with kids would be extra fun thanks to all the figures to look at!
The big wood-fired oven in the kitchen and the menu board
True to its name, the kitchen has a genuinely huge wood-fired oven! Seeing it in person made me even more excited to try this grilled fish spot in Anyang's Bisan-dong~! This is exactly where the fish gets cooked — not on a regular pan or grill but using the high heat of the wood-fired oven, which gets the outside golden while keeping the inside moist. That seems to be the real charm of this Korean restaurant near Indeokwon haha.
Let's take a look at the menu too! Centered around wood-fired grilled fish, there's a good range of Korean dishes, so it works well not just for mackerel lovers but for families ordering to their own tastes! Lately I prefer rice, fish and side dishes over heavily seasoned food~ If you're after a filling, healthy Korean meal near Indeokwon, come here!

What's on the self-serve bar: japchae, tteokbokki and more
One thing I really liked here was the generously stocked self-serve bar! You can grab as much of whatever side dish you want, so there's no need to flag down staff every time you run low, and it lets you turn a grilled fish meal into a full spread with all sorts of sides!

There's everything from radish kimchi to doenjang-glazed peppers to all sorts of bibimbap toppings! And there's even tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes) at the self-serve bar? What a bonus! Before the fish even arrived, we grabbed a round-one snack of tteokbokki and japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) haha. Score! Kids would especially love this.
What comes with the mackerel set, and how the oven-grilled mackerel tastes
Ta-da~ a properly set-up mackerel set! With the big, golden-grilled mackerel as the centerpiece and all the sides from the self-serve bar arranged around it, the spread turned out really generous haha.
It's not just a lone piece of fish plopped down — you get to pair it with whatever sides you like, from radish kimchi to peppers, so it never gets boring to the last bite! This is exactly the kind of Korean spread I love. It's great to eat with your parents and also perfect for a hearty meal with a group. If you're looking for a good Korean restaurant near Indeokwon or a family meal spot in Anyang, definitely give this a try!

Up close, the wood-fired mackerel looks even better! The skin is grilled so golden it's practically crispy — just looking at it, you can tell it'll be nutty and savory haha. Poking the skin with chopsticks, that crisp texture held up really well~ Crispy outside while keeping that mackerel's signature rich, moist quality inside — you get both textures at once! As you'd expect from a proper grilled fish spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang, wood-fired grilling really has its own charm compared to pan-frying at home haha.
Now let me show you the inside of the mackerel! I split it open a bit with my chopsticks and big chunks of white flesh came right off haha. The outside was grilled golden in the oven while the inside stayed moist instead of dry — the contrast in texture between outside and inside was really satisfying!

The mackerel itself had just the right amount of natural fattiness, so even a plain bite over rice with no extra seasoning tasted properly nutty and savory~! Grilled fish really is all about that moist inside haha. If you're hunting for a good grilled fish spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang, this fresh-off-the-oven mackerel is worth trying!

Building your own bibimbap from the self-serve bar
Ta-da! Bi.bim.bap. Can't skip this one haha. Grab as many namul (seasoned vegetables) and veggies as you like from the self-serve bar, pile them on rice, mix it all up, and there's your own custom bibimbap! Eating bibimbap in between bites of mackerel made the whole meal feel way more filling than just eating fish alone. Topping the bibimbap with a piece of that moist mackerel flesh was also a delicacy in itself!
Getting to enjoy grilled fish and bibimbap together makes for a spread that'll fully satisfy anyone who loves Korean food! If you're looking for a grilled fish spot in Bisan-dong, Anyang, a group meal venue near Anyang Sports Complex, or just a solid Korean restaurant near Indeokwon, definitely visit Hwaddeugeuro for a generous Korean meal~!
