I've been really into hunting down bakeries lately. When I'm looking for something simple to enjoy with a cup of coffee, a bakery with lots of variety always feels like a treat.
This time I visited Byway Bakers Balsan Station, located at 678-1 Deungchon-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
If you're looking for good bread or dessert near Balsan Station, this bakery is worth stopping into. I couldn't just walk past that day, and before I knew it I'd picked out several different pastries.

Four picks at Byway Bakers Balsan Station
This time I chose salt bread, egg tart, pistachio financier, and salty financier.
I already have a soft spot for salt bread and financiers, so those caught my eye first, and once I spotted the egg tart it was hard to pick just one.
In the end I decided to grab a variety of everything I wanted to try and taste one of each.

🥐 A basic salt bread you keep thinking about
First up was the most familiar one — the salt bread I always end up reaching for at any bakery.
Salt bread's charm is that crisp exterior paired with a soft, moist inside.
With the first bite there's a nutty flavor, and a subtle saltiness that never feels overwhelming.
It really pairs well with coffee — I thought it would work as a breakfast substitute or an afternoon snack.
Even eaten on its own, it's plain but has that buttery, nutty richness that keeps you reaching for another bite.

🥚 Sweet and soft egg tart
Next up was the egg tart.
Egg tarts are all about the pairing of crisp pastry and soft egg filling.
The outside had a nice crunch while the inside was soft and moist — a great contrast in texture.
The sweetness wasn't overbearing either, which made it easy to enjoy with coffee.
Paired with a warm coffee or an iced Americano, the sweet tart and bitter coffee balanced each other out nicely.

💚 Nutty and charming pistachio financier
One of the items I was most curious about this time was the pistachio financier.
The financier's signature nutty, chewy texture combined with pistachio flavor gave it a different appeal from a regular financier.
The subtle pistachio nuttiness came through nicely with each bite, and the size was just right for a coffee-time dessert.
If you like pistachio, this one would score high.
Pistachio desserts are so popular these days that I was naturally drawn to it, and enjoying that pistachio flavor in bread-and-dessert form felt fresh and delicious.

🧂 Salty financier with sweet-salty charm
And the salty financier I picked alongside it shouldn't be left out either.
The financier's characteristic rich, nutty flavor plus a hint of saltiness made it feel much more interesting than a plain sweet dessert.
Personally I like a good sweet-salty balance, so this one was right up my alley.
It went well with coffee too, and would be great as a simple snack when you're a bit hungry in the afternoon.
☕ A Balsan Station bakery good for pairing with coffee
After trying several pastries this time, what struck me was how many of them pair well with coffee.
From plain bread like the salt bread to sweet desserts like the egg tart to nutty, distinctive options like the pistachio and salty financiers, there's something for every taste.
If you're visiting alone, picking one or two to enjoy with coffee works well; if you're with others, picking a variety to share sounds like fun too.
Especially when you're not sure what you'll like, tasting a little of several things seems more satisfying than committing to just one.
🥐 Personally, I loved the plain, nutty flavor of the salt bread, and both the pistachio financier's nuttiness and the salty financier's salty charm stuck with me.
If you're near Balsan Station looking for good bread or dessert to have with coffee, give Byway Bakers Balsan Station a try.
I guess it's inevitable that going in to pick one pastry ends up with you grabbing a bunch of things. 😂
Next time I visit, I'd like to try some of the other bakery items I didn't get to taste this time.
From salt bread to egg tart to pistachio financier to salty financier — this record of a Balsan Station bakery visit covered a lot of ground! I'll keep this place in mind for the next time I'm craving a cup of coffee and good bread.
