It's summer and I should be on a diet, but I've been eating way too well.. haha. I should be exercising!! But you can't stop in front of good food. Let me introduce a Jongno, Daegu barbecue place: Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch (벽돌 생갈비 종로점)!
Where is Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, and what are its hours?
Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch is on floors 1, 2 and 3 of the building at 38-1 Jongno, Jung-gu, Daegu, South Korea. It's open every day, Monday to Sunday, from 17:00 to 01:00 (last order listed as 12:00). For parking, use the public or paid lots near the restaurant.
The exterior: renamed from Ubokgeum Saenggalbi
Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch sits right in the middle of the Jongno downtown area in Daegu, so it really catches your eye~~ It used to be called Ubokgeum Saenggalbi (우복금생갈비) and was renamed. The staff and the owner are all the same, only the name changed haha. I'd been when it was the old BBQ place too, and it was delicious!

I'm so excited~ the original brick galbi!! The name comes from the way they stack the meat up like bricks, and it's even patented, which is crazy.
What's the interior of Jangjak Saenggalbi like?

The inside is classy and clean. I walked in right at opening, so there were no customers at all! While I was eating, everyone arrived quickly and the place filled up haha.
The interior feels flashy yet refined haha. They say the original brick galbi is hand-trimmed and fresh haha.
Receipt review event and Kagoshima black pork
They also have a review event going on! Post a receipt review and you get cold noodles or ttagwi-jjim (braised dish, 따귀찜). I picked the ttagwi-jjim, hehe. They also sell assorted Kagoshima black pork~ wow.
First they put charcoal in the grill! It came out fast and snappy haha, I liked that!
Basic side dishes at Jangjak Saenggalbi

Jangjak Saenggalbi is famous for its variety of side dishes! Wow, they're killer. You get a salty perilla leaf side made like pesto, plus pickled chili to whet your appetite, garlic ssamjang (dipping paste) and jangajji (pickled vegetables).

Do staff grill the brick galbi for 2 people?
I ordered 2 servings of brick fresh galbi, and the staff at Jangjak Saenggalbi grilled it for me with their grilling service. I mean, the food came out this fast haha. And look at the color of that meat.. the beef is insane haha. Endless gratitude-

This is the raw meat at Jangjak Saenggalbi. I wondered about going for the garlic version, but figured I should try the basic first, so I ordered the basic!

The marbling is no joke haha. And since they grilled it for us, I enjoyed it so much!!

The slightly frozen radish slaw is amazing!!
Wow, when they grill it for you it's so easy to eat and so nice~~

The slow-grilled rib bone specialty
Jangjak Saenggalbi has a specialty. They grill the tough part attached to the rib bone for a long, really long time until it turns nutty and rich.. it was amazing haha. I'd never had that texture and flavor before!!

The free cypress steamer
While I was eating away like mad~ they brought out a cypress steamer (편백찜) as a freebie.. wow!! They just gave me a ₩10,000 side menu for free T_T

What do the spicy marinated crab noodles taste like?
I was told the spicy marinated crab noodles (양념게장국수) are the specialty of specialties, found only at Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch, so I ordered them right away. Amazing, right haha.

It's crazy, it's loaded with marinated crab, and they even gave me plastic gloves so I could squeeze it out by hand and eat.
And the ttagwi-jjim I got for the review service.. crazy. The ttagwi-jjim is crazy haha. It'd make 2 bowls of rice disappear in a flash!!!

Wow, this taste of boneless crab with noodles... crazy.
Jangjak Saenggalbi menu and overall verdict

Please check the menu board for Jangjak Saenggalbi's dishes and prices! The owner and staff were so, so, so kind, grilled everything for us, and the food was the best. It's a place that satisfies on both taste and service, which is rare these days! Hope it's a huge hit~~
