Coconut-chip tangsuyuk at a Marine City Chinese restaurant: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch (부엌간 차이니즈 마린시티점) is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor of The Sharp Adelis shopping block in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. Under floor-to-ceiling windows facing Dongbaekseom Island and Gwangandaegyo Bridge, the writer shared poached-egg pork belly ganjajang (dry black bean noodles), spicy poached-egg octopus rice and black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) topped with dried coconut chips. For the view, both the prices and the food at Bueokgan Chinese felt easy, making it a place to return to for a meal before or after a Dongbaekseom walk.

Bueokgan Chinese (부엌간 차이니즈) is a Chinese restaurant in Haeundae's Marine City where you can see everything from Dongbaekseom island to Gwangandaegyo Bridge. Honestly, I never expected a view like this from a Chinese restaurant. I visited Bueokgan, where Dongbaekseom, Marine City and, far off, Gwangandaegyo Bridge all spread out before you.

You get Chinese food in a stylish space, and it's easy to walk around Dongbaekseom before or after, so it's a good one to remember as a meal spot near the island. Let me tell you about Bueokgan Chinese, where I tried poached-egg ganjajang (dry-fried black bean noodles), black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and spicy octopus rice :)💜

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and how is parking?

Bueokgan Chinese is on the 2nd floor of The Sharp Adelis shopping block, across from Hanwha Resort, and parking in The Sharp Adelis lot was free for 1 hour 30 minutes. It's in the same building as Subyeon Choego Dwaeji Gukbap (pork and rice soup), so even a first-timer can find it easily. (There's an elevator at the entrance, which is handy!)

The sea view and interior at Bueokgan Chinese

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the sea view stretching out past the big windows. Dongbaekseom, Marine City and Gwangandaegyo Bridge were all in sight, so I felt like I was properly enjoying Busan before the meal even began.

Unlike a typical Chinese restaurant, even the furniture and lighting were stylishly done. Since it was autumn, the folding doors were wide open, so we could enjoy the sea breeze and the scenery together.

Are the private rooms good for family gatherings or dates?

The restaurant is big and the tables are nicely spaced, so it never felt stuffy while eating. There are also private rooms, which suit family gatherings or dates well.

It would also be good if you're looking for a nice meal during a Busan trip, or bringing a foreign friend. It's easy to continue to a Dongbaekseom walk afterward, so it's a good meal spot to remember near the island.

At tourist spots, a good view in Marine City can sometimes mean high prices. But Bueokgan's food quality and prices were both fine, so it's a place I'd happily return to without any burden :)

How was the poached-egg pork belly ganjajang?

Chinese dishes ordered at Bueokgan Chinese

The poached-egg pork belly ganjajang at Bueokgan had thicker noodles than ordinary jajangmyeon, and the sauce wasn't oily, so it tasted clean. Jajangmyeon is the most iconic Chinese dish, right? I like generous toppings, so I ordered the poached-egg pork belly ganjajang and enjoyed it.

The thick noodles felt chewier, and the sauce soaked in so the flavor built the more I ate. The onion and meat were in big chunks, and the sauce wasn't overly oily, so it stayed clean. Breaking the soft poached egg and mixing it in also mellowed the saltiness of the ganjajang.

Why I recommend the spicy poached-egg octopus rice

If you want a new taste instead of the Chinese dishes you always eat, I really recommend Bueokgan's spicy poached-egg octopus rice.

Spicy poached-egg octopus rice

Big pieces of octopus and beef belly are stir-fried quickly over high heat, so they stay chewy rather than tough, and the spicy Chinese-style flavor made it even more appealing.

Have it with the egg soup that comes alongside to tone down the spice, and break the poached egg to coat the rice grains, which adds a nutty richness and makes it even better.

Black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk with coconut chips: the best of the day

The most memorable dish of the day at Bueokgan was definitely the black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk! The batter is thin yet surprisingly crispy, and the sirloin inside isn't tough, so the texture was great.

This tangsuyuk is the crispy style rather than the chewy feel of glutinous-rice tangsuyuk. I was impressed that even though the sauce is poured over, it didn't turn soggy easily as time passed.

The black vinegar sauce's tang doesn't stand out too much, so it cleanly cut the richness of the meat. The dried coconut chips on top added a faint aroma, and it felt clearly different from the tangsuyuk I usually eat.

You can enjoy the charms of Chinese food in so many ways here, so sharing was fun too at this Dongbaekseom meal spot :)

Why I'd go back to Bueokgan Chinese

Sea view from the Marine City Chinese restaurant

What I liked most about Bueokgan was enjoying tasty Chinese food together with the scenery. The wide-open ocean view kept catching my eye, so much that I briefly forgot it was a Chinese restaurant.

Dongbaekseom is right nearby, so it's nice to stroll slowly along the coastal path after eating. On a day exploring Marine City and Haeundae, it's a convenient spot to fit into your route.

The atmosphere is upscale but the food isn't pricey, and with a varied menu from ganjajang to tangsuyuk to rice dishes, it's a Haeundae Marine City restaurant I'd return to for a family meal or a date :)
