If you are traveling to Yeongdo in Busan, or looking for a quality meat restaurant nearby, there is one place I really want to recommend. It is Bongnae Hanwoo Butcher Restaurant (봉래한우 정육식당), a Yeongdo favorite that locals have been talking about for its fresh, odor-free meat. We reserved ahead for a weekday evening and thoroughly polished off domestic fresh pork belly, tender pork neck, and steamed egg for our child, so let me tell you all about it.
Location and parking in Bongnae-dong, Yeongdo

It is right in the heart of the Bongnae-dong commercial area in Yeongdo, making it easy for Yeongdo locals as well as travelers stopping by Taejongdae or Huinnyeoul Culture Village.
Even if you drive, you can park at a nearby public parking lot and walk over without worrying. There is no dedicated parking lot, but parking support was available. It is also close to nearby bus stops, so public transport access was excellent. Since diners can quickly fill the place during the evening rush, I strongly recommend reserving ahead.
A spacious dining room and convenient self-serve bar

As soon as we entered, we were welcomed by a clean, airy, spacious dining room with the pleasant feel of a butcher restaurant. We had reserved in advance for a weekday evening, and the neatly arranged side dishes and tableware had already been set beautifully on our table. It was so nice to feel looked after from the moment we arrived.

The tables were well spaced and the seating was comfortable, making it an ideal setting for a family meal or a gathering.

To one side was a clean self-serve bar where we could freely help ourselves to more side dishes and ssam vegetables (wrap greens) without feeling self-conscious. It was very convenient throughout the meal.
From fresh pork belly to steamed egg: the menu

True to its name as a butcher restaurant, there was a varied selection of exceptionally fresh meat.
- Main meats: domestic fresh pork belly, tender pork neck, and assorted Korean beef cuts
- Meals and sides: fluffy steamed egg, soybean paste stew, and rice

We started with three portions of domestic fresh pork belly, and the wrap greens and side dishes served alongside the meat were all neatly presented. The wasabi shiitake mushroom side dish in particular, spicy and fragrant at once, immediately caught my eye.
Juicy fresh pork belly and even better pork neck

Soon, our three portions of fresh pork belly arrived in a vivid pink-red shade. The balance of fat and lean meat was just right, and I could see how fresh it was even before grilling.

I wrapped a piece of well-grilled pork belly in myeonginamul (pickled wild garlic leaves) and took a bite. The juices burst out as I chewed, and the texture practically melted in my mouth.

Even wrapped in fresh greens, the meat's own savory flavor came through so well that I instantly understood why Yeongdo residents recognize this as a good restaurant. As a butcher restaurant, the meat was truly fresh, with not even the slightest hint of a meaty odor.

The steamed egg we ordered additionally for our child was nicely seasoned with just the right salty touch, perfect for mixing into a bowl of rice. I topped a bowl of rice with fluffy steamed egg and slices of well-grilled, tender pork neck, and our child finished the whole bowl in no time. I was so pleased!

Personally, I loved the punchy wasabi shiitake mushroom side dish so much that I devoured everything without a moment to notice any richness from the meat.

So I could not resist ordering extra pork neck! Compared with pork neck I have had at other meat restaurants, it was not dry at all—far softer and juicier. Personally, I found the pork neck even more satisfying.
A Yeongdo meat restaurant that is great with kids
The friendly, comfortable setup made possible by our reservation, the convenience of the self-serve bar where we could enjoy as much as we wanted, and the perfect balance of fat and lean in the fresh pork belly with the unusual treat of wasabi shiitake mushrooms!

Thanks to the tender pork neck and steamed egg that helped our child finish a full bowl of rice, the entire family was able to leave happily full. If you are visiting Yeongdo or are a local looking for a quality butcher restaurant, I definitely recommend stopping by Bongnae Hanwoo Butcher Restaurant.
