Date café near Ilgwang Beach, Gijang: squid ink risotto at Purity Cafe
In short
Purity Cafe is a two-floor brunch café and bakery on Chaseong-ro in Gijang, Busan, about 5 minutes by car from Ilgwang Beach. On a Gijang date, the writer booked through Naver, sat at a 2nd-floor window seat at Purity Cafe and ordered squid ink risotto, mortadella pizza, and house-made plum ade and pineapple ade. The squid ink risotto topped with a whole squid and the fruit-packed plum ade made Purity Cafe a satisfying date stop to pair with Ilgwang Beach.

We hadn't been on a Gijang date in a while, so we stopped at Purity Cafe, a Gijang brunch spot. The food is good, the wood-toned interior is cozy, and lots of local families come here. It's 5 minutes by car from Ilgwang Beach, so you can have a relaxed brunch and then look at the sea. I recommend it as a Gijang date course.

Just use the Gamasot Saengbokjip parking lot to the left of Purity Cafe. It's 5 minutes by car from Ilgwang Beach, so it's easy to combine into one route.
What is the inside of Purity Cafe like?
The café's mascot seems to be a cute sheep. The posters and packaging are all sheep, and there are sheep dolls placed all around the shop, which were so cute. When you visit, try finding the hidden sheep :)

Purity Cafe isn't just brunch; it's a Gijang café that bakes its own bread. I was surprised by how many kinds of bread and cake there were. Whole cakes can be reserved too. They also sell wine and beer that go well with pasta.

2nd-floor window seats and group tables
Both floors 1 and 2 run as café space. The 1st floor was fresh and green and nice, but we went up to the 2nd floor.
The European-countryside-style wood interior was comfortable and pretty. The tables are big, and the large windows give an open, refreshing feel.
I'd booked on Naver, and they gave us a window seat, which made it even better. There were people there so I couldn't take photos, but there's also a group table inside that looked good for study sessions or group gatherings.
Purity Cafe menu and signature dishes

The Purity Cafe menu covers salads, pasta, risotto, pizza, sandwiches, gambas and more. It's a Gijang brunch spot with a really wide menu. The signature dishes are said to be the steak pasta and the seafood pasta.

Drinks include coffee, ades and tea, plus beer and wine. House wine is sold by the glass, so it seems nice for a light daytime drink.
We ordered the squid ink risotto, mortadella pizza, plum ade and pineapple ade.
How do the plum ade and pineapple ade at Purity Cafe taste?

The plum ade and pineapple ade at Purity Cafe aren't made with store-bought syrup; they're homemade ades packed with fruit. They aren't too sweet and you can really taste the fruit itself, which I loved.

Plum pulp slurps right into your mouth with each sip, and it's so good. It's thrilling. Especially recommended if you like plums. The taste of summer.

It was a very satisfying ade, the first in a while. The pineapple ade was just as good.

How is the squid ink risotto at Purity Cafe?
Squid ink risotto and mortadella pizza.

The squid ink risotto at Purity Cafe comes topped with a whole golden-grilled squid, and it looks so good it can't possibly be bad. Chopped squid legs are mixed into the risotto too, so the texture is nice and the squid flavor really comes through. That slightly jjajang-like (black bean sauce) taste squid ink risotto has is so good. Haha.
The rice grains weren't undercooked either. The squid was tender, not chewy, and I keep thinking about it.

Mortadella pizza at Purity Cafe
The mortadella pizza at Purity Cafe is piled with soft mortadella ham studded with pistachios. The pesto is green too, so the whole thing looks very green, and the arugula makes it fresh and tasty.

Maybe because they bake their own bread, the dough was chewy and nutty. Overall it isn't heavily seasoned, so it seems good to share with a child too.
Purity Cafe as a Gijang date course: overall review
Purity Cafe is a Gijang brunch spot I recommend for dates. Do try the squid ink risotto with a whole squid on top.
Next time I want to try the sandwiches and bread. With brunch, pet-friendliness and group seating, it seems good for dates or gatherings alike. If you're looking for a brunch place in Gijang, stop by. Combined with Ilgwang Beach, it's a great Gijang date course!
