Haeundae mackerel restaurant with review perks by group: Haneobuui

In short

Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae is a mackerel sashimi restaurant about a 5-minute walk from Haeundae Station in Busan. The writer and a partner shared the 50,000-won-per-person mackerel set, which ran from mackerel sashimi served with dry ice to soy-braised pomfret, mackerel grilled in a 500°C wood-fired oven, mackerel braised with aged kimchi, and seaweed soup. Thanks to the non-fishy mackerel sashimi and the generous spread, the writer felt the 50,000 won was money well spent.

I visited Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae (한어부의고등어사랑 해운대), a well-known restaurant near Haeundae Station. It's a place in Haeundae where you can have proper mackerel sashimi, and it already has a great reputation for family meals and dinners with parents.

Where is Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae, and where can you park?

The restaurant is about a 5-minute walk from Haeundae Station. It's close to Gunam-ro and Haeridan-gil, and there's dedicated parking behind the building 🚗 It's open 11:00 to 22:30, with a break from 15:00 to 17:00.

  • Location: about a 5-minute walk from Haeundae Station (near Gunam-ro and Haeridan-gil)
  • Parking: dedicated lot behind the restaurant
  • Size: a spacious 66-seat restaurant with a private room (up to 20 people)

It's near the station so it's easy to find, and the big private parking lot behind the building is a bonus. It's perfect for office gatherings and company dinners in Haeundae, or family get-togethers, if you're driving.

Why does Haneobuui Godeungeosarang fillet the mackerel to order?

They say the restaurant prepares the mackerel on the spot as soon as you order. The line written in the restaurant reads, "Mackerel fights against time, and we fight for freshness." Did you know mackerel is the most impatient fish of all for sashimi? Flatfish or rockfish can get deeper in flavor as they age, but with mackerel, even a little delay turns the rich, firm flesh soft and mushy. The chefs say they battle the clock with the mackerel every day.

To make guests say "this place is different" the moment they take a bite.

Just like that line says, with the first bite the nutty richness of the fat coated my whole mouth and melted away. It made me think, wow, they really pulled it off...! haha

What are the receipt review perks at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang?

The restaurant runs a Naver receipt review event by party size, shown on the tablet at the table. The more people who write a review, the bigger the perk. Match the number of people and don't forget to claim it.

  • 1 person writes a review: 1 canned soft drink
  • 2 people: 3 pieces of live-fish sushi
  • 3 people: one 500°C wood-fired mackerel
  • 4 people: a refreshing slush mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)

You can join by writing a photo review of about 3 lines with a keyword of your choice, such as Haeundae raw fish restaurant, lunch special or mulhoe.

How much is the mackerel set, and what does it include?

The mackerel set (고등어한상) is ₩50,000 per person and requires an order for 2 or more. We tried it, since it lets you enjoy a variety of mackerel dishes the classic way! It's only available in the restaurant, so no takeout.

Clean, simple side dishes to start

The basic sides of the mackerel set were salad, kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake), memil (buckwheat noodles), white kimchi, pickled onion, and gamtae (seaweed). Ginger and pickled scallion, chili and garlic, ssamjang (dipping paste) and wasabi were all neatly set out too.

Mackerel bar sushi and mulhoe (cold raw fish soup)

Next in the basic course came the mackerel stick sushi. The rice has a nice mild tang that goes well with the aroma of the mackerel, and it's nutty.

The mulhoe you sip between bites is honestly the best combo! Fresh, chewy raw fish sits in a sweet, sour and spicy broth with floating ice crystals. It washes away the rich flavor of the mackerel dishes and resets your mouth, leaving it fresh and clean.

Is the mackerel sashimi at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang fishy?

The main mackerel sashimi at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae had no fishy taste at all. Instead it had a chewy texture and a rich, nutty fat. It came out with a dry ice show, and seeing the smoke rise I couldn't help going "wow~". The shimmering mix of red and silver is eye-catching from the start.

The moment I picked up a piece with chopsticks, it had such a chewy, springy feel!!! After that texture, the rich, nutty fat typical of mackerel melts away very softly. There's not even 1% of fishiness, and the deep savory taste of the sea comes up the more you chew.

Tips for eating mackerel sashimi

  • Wrap it in gamtae (seaweed) with a little wasabi
  • Make your own mackerel sushi with the sushi rice and white kimchi served alongside
  • Dip it lightly in the nutty ssamjang to taste the mackerel's natural richness
  • Eat it with the wild parsley (charnamul) side dish that comes with it

Soy-braised pomfret after the sashimi

After we finished the sashimi, braised pomfret in soy sauce came out before the main meal! They said the braised fish changes from time to time, and we got pomfret. The braised pomfret was a textbook example of deep, sweet-and-salty seasoning haha

Braised pomfret with radish and tofu

The mild, soft pomfret flesh was so moist it flaked apart along the grain. Breaking off pieces of radish soaked in the sauce and tofu seasoned all the way through, the salty-sweet sauce filled my mouth. My partner, who hates tofu, ate it happily too.

How does the 500°C wood-fired grilled mackerel taste?

The wood-fired mackerel at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae was crispy outside and moist inside. Maybe because the surface is cooked in an instant in a 500°C oven, it's crisp and golden outside and surprisingly moist inside. The size is overwhelming too, wow

When you pull apart the thick flesh with chopsticks, the nutty juices and oil that were locked in come pouring out. It's not salty but mild, and the faint smoky flavor of the oven is deep in the flesh. It's easy to eat and there's plenty of meat!

Finishing with aged-kimchi braised mackerel and seaweed soup

The set finished with aged-kimchi mackerel stew, white rice and miyeok-guk (seaweed soup). The kimchi aged and simmered for over 6 hours is Haneobuui Godeungeosarang's cheat code. I tore off strips of aged kimchi so tender it practically gave way to a poke, and ate them with plump mackerel flesh soaked in flavor. The seasoning of the kimchi and the richness of the mackerel blended so perfectly that calling it a rice thief (a dish that makes you eat more rice) wasn't enough. The radish inside was cooked so well too haha

I polished off a bowl of rice packed down tight. Finally, a rich, savory seaweed soup warmed my stomach, and my empty belly filled with fancy dishes made for a hugely satisfying meal~!

On top of that, crispy fried shrimp and a vitamin candy on the way out made it a perfect finish lol

Is the 50,000-won mackerel set at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang worth it?

The writer felt the ₩50,000-per-person mackerel set at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae was worth every won. The courses, freshness and taste all felt high-end. With my belief that you never leave good meat (or fish) behind, I cleaned everything up until I was about to burst. I even got a nice motivation boost: "I have to work harder just to eat food this good!" 🤣

If you're looking near Haeundae Station for a classy Haeundae lunch, a quiet private-room company dinner, or a clean raw fish restaurant to take your parents, definitely visit Haneobuui Godeungeosarang!
