Gijang tteokgalbi restaurant Tuesday dinner: cypress tofu bar, Dongam
In short
Dongam Tteokgalbi is a tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty) and hotpot rice restaurant on Gijang Haean-ro near Lotte Outlet in Gijang, Busan. On a Tuesday at 7:30 pm, two of us ordered the cheese tteokgalbi set and the cream cheongyang tteokgalbi set at 18,000 won each, then filled our plates from a self-bar of more than 31 side dishes, including cypress-steamed tofu, stir-fried kimchi, steamed egg and jjajang sauce. With free parking, baby chairs and partitioned sofa seating, Dongam Tteokgalbi is an easy recommendation for a family meal out.

Walking to Dongam Tteokgalbi from Osiria Station, and what the dining room is like
Dongam Tteokgalbi, a Korean restaurant known for tteokgalbi near Lotte World, Lotte Outlet and Lotte Mall, is easy to find — walk straight for about 15 minutes from Exit 1 of Osiria Station, or use the restaurant's own free parking lot. The lot is pretty spacious and even has a proper disabled parking spot, which I liked. Take the elevator up to the 3rd floor to reach Dongam Tteokgalbi!
The interior was really spacious and clean and pleasant! The pottery pieces scattered around gave it a pretty, upscale feel. I visited on a Tuesday at 7:30pm, and the staff seemed busy tidying up after a rush. Lunchtime is apparently more popular here, so you should expect a possible wait — they use a handwritten notebook at the entrance for the waitlist. The waiting area was spacious and clean, so waiting didn't seem bad at all!👍 Plenty of baby chairs too :-)

Dongam Tteokgalbi menu prices and the one-dish-per-person rule
One menu per person for elementary-school age and up, with a kids' tteokgalbi prepared for under 10s! I thought it was impressive that they aim not just for tteokgalbi alone but a balanced meal with meat, rice, side dishes, sauce and vegetables all together!👍 It was also nice being able to choose between different types of tteokgalbi depending on your taste :-)
- Cheese Tteokgalbi Set 18,000
- Cream Cheongyang Tteokgalbi Set 18,000
We visited as two, and here's what we ordered!
What the two 18,000-won tteokgalbi sets come with

When you order, the basic side dishes and hotpot rice come out first. They try not to overlap with the self-bar side dishes, but occasionally there's some overlap, so check before you go help yourself at the self-bar! Next to the self-bar there were also some old-school Korean snacks for dessert.

What is on the 31-dish self-bar at Dongam Tteokgalbi?
The moment I saw the self-bar I actually gasped — there were so many side dishes!!🤤 About 13 kinds of namul (seasoned vegetable) side dishes, plus barley rice with gandoenjang (thick soybean paste), seaweed soup, cypress-steamed tofu, stir-fried kimchi, sausage and vegetable stir-fry, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fried rice, steamed egg, jjajang sauce, stir-fried squid, and more. Rather than just padding out the number of dishes, they filled it with genuinely delicious things — I actually worried whether the owner was making any profit!!👍👍 I wanted to bring my parents here!
The hotpot rice was mixed with multigrain and freshly cooked warm — really nice!!👍 If you finish the rice and want nurungji (scorched rice), just ask and they'll give you hot water for it!
By the time we'd gathered our side dishes from the self-bar and sat down, the tteokgalbi arrived!! It was bigger than I expected, and looked so appetizing with its pretty presentation.

With the side dishes from the self-bar added in, it looked even more generous, haha. A hearty feeling of fullness even before eating!🤍 And the set meal also comes with crab doenjang stew!! It's packed with big chunks of tofu, nicely salty, and this place is honestly a doenjang stew spot too!🤤

How do the cypress-steamed tofu, steamed egg and jjajang taste?
I started with the side dishes from the self-bar first — the warm tofu steamed in cypress had a nuttier flavor than regular tofu. Eaten together with the stir-fried kimchi it got even more savory, almost like a drinking snack, and it was so good!!🤤 The tofu-kimchi combo alone already felt like great value. I also love a soft, jiggly texture in steamed egg, and this one was so soft I was very satisfied. I think kids would especially love it! There was also jjajang sauce to scoop up, and it was stir-fried so well that the onions still had crunch and the chunjang (black bean paste) flavor was rich — mixed into rice with green onion kimchi on top, it's the best!!👍 As a seaweed soup lover, I loved that it was rich and packed with plenty of seaweed :-)
The various namul dishes were also perfectly seasoned, giving off a healthy Korean-meal feeling! There were big rice bowls at the self-bar, so you could even make bibimbap with everything, haha. I thought the gandoenjang looked delicious so I mixed some in on the side — salty and delicious!!🤤

Cream cheongyang tteokgalbi set, 18,000 won
I tried the cheongyang cream tteokgalbi first. Since they use 100% beef for all their tteokgalbi, the meat density was high, juicy and full of flavor — you could really feel how serious they are about tteokgalbi👍 They said it's aged in a soy-sauce base overnight at low temperature, then grilled over charcoal, which is probably why the fat was well trimmed away while the inside stayed juicy and moist — so delicious!!🤤 The cheongyang cream was a milk-and-fresh-cream-based sauce with cheongyang chili added, but it wasn't super spicy, just a mild kick. Combined with the tteokgalbi it felt even softer and paired really well — I'd say it's the best tteokgalbi I've had recently👍👍

Cheese tteokgalbi set, 18,000 won
The cheese tteokgalbi also cut soft and was equally juicy and moist🤍 The difference from the cheongyang cream was that this one felt a bit richer! My partner said it tasted like a fancy Gordon Ramsay-style patty and loved it, haha. The meat flavor was legit!! No gamey smell at all👍 The combination of fine cheddar and string cheese looked great for kids to eat too. It's not too strong-flavored and has a soft taste, so I thought it was perfect for a family meal :-)

Is Dongam Tteokgalbi worth it for a family meal near Lotte Outlet Gijang?
It was delicious over rice, delicious on its own, and delicious with the sauce that came alongside it. The sauce was slightly sweet and seemed to boost the savory flavor even more, pairing really well!👍 I also found the cheese tteokgalbi tasty with cheongyang chili on top, haha. A little tip for you :-)
With a spacious, pleasant interior, partitioned sofa seating, baby chairs and ample parking all in place, this is a spot I'd confidently recommend if anyone asked about good restaurants in Gijang🤍 If you're looking for a good place near Lotte Outlet Gijang, I recommend it!
