Jeonpo tonkatsu with indoor waiting seats on a rainy weekend: Hets

In short

Hets Jeonpo Branch is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant on Jeonpo-daero in Busanjin, Busan, where every seat is a bar seat facing the kitchen so you can watch the katsu being cooked. Arriving at opening time on a rainy weekend still meant a wait in the indoor waiting seats, followed by the YBD fillet katsu at 15,000 won, the Jeju black pork loin katsu at 14,000 won and meat curry at 3,000 won. The fillet katsu with as much truffle oil as you like and the smoky black pork loin katsu were both worth the wait.

I raved about Hets, the tonkatsu spot I tried in Gwangalli last time, and heard they'd opened a new branch in Jeonpo — so of course I had to check it out. Just as delicious as I remembered! Here's my review of Hets Jeonpo Branch✨✨

Is there a wait at weekend opening time? Check CatchTable first

You know a good restaurant always comes with a wait, right?! Hets uses CatchTable, so it's best to check ahead whether there's a line before you go. Even at weekend opening time, there was a wait haha

❗️Join the CatchTable waitlist in advance❗️

Indoor waiting seats at Hets Jeonpo Branch

It was a rainy day, and Hets has separate waiting seats, which was such a relief. Being able to wait indoors even when it's uncomfortable outside is a huge plus!!

Suitcase storage space at Hets Jeonpo Branch

Since Jeonpo draws a lot of travelers, there's even a space to store your suitcase?! Such a comfortable, well-thought-out spot🧡

All bar seating at Hets, with goods and song-request sticky notes

Hets Jeonpo Branch is noticeably more spacious than the Gwangan branch!! Every single seat is a bar seat, so you can watch your tonkatsu getting fried haha

Table with sticky notes and pens for song requests

They even sell Hets goods separately?! I honestly kind of wanted the oversized t-shirt.. There are sticky notes and pens on the tables — write down a song you want to hear and hand it to a staff member, and they'll play it right away haha such a nice touch🧡

Back of the menu with tips for enjoying tonkatsu

There's a guide on the back of the menu for how to enjoy your tonkatsu best, so take a look~!! Side dishes, soup, and rice (aside from the katsu itself) can be refilled for free, so ask staff if you need more. Also, Hets has silbi kimchi (aged sour kimchi)!! If you'd like some, just ask for it right away.

Whole black pepper, truffle oil, wasabi, and salad sauce on the bar table

On the bar table you'll find whole black pepper, salad sauce, truffle oil, and wasabi for your katsu — drizzle to your taste. Hets' salad sauce actually tastes like corn?! It might seem odd to have corn dressing on a salad, but it was clean and nutty and delicious👍🏻👍🏻

YBD fillet katsu, 15,000 won: don't skip the truffle oil

Our tonkatsu coming through with all that smoky char🧡

Full spread of YBD fillet katsu at Hets Jeonpo Branch

YBD fillet katsu, ₩15,000. YBD is apparently a premium pork breed raised through a three-way cross of Yorkshire, Berkshire, and Duroc pigs:) Fillet katsu is said to be low in fat, giving it a soft, moist texture.

The color of this fillet katsu alone is insane. It just looks moist, and there's no way it could taste bad ㅠㅠ My heart started racing the moment I saw it..

Moist cross-section of the YBD fillet katsu
A piece of fillet katsu topped with wasabi

The moment I took a bite, I made that involuntary frown of truth. How can something be this moist and tender? Fillet really is my favorite~~~ Delicious on its own, even better with a bit of wasabi!!! This is the ultimate crispy-outside-tender-inside fillet katsu. Everyone needs to try the fillet katsu at Hets, no question.

A really great thing about Hets!! You can pour on as much truffle oil as you want~~ You absolutely have to drizzle it on. The truffle aroma combined with the katsu is next level.

Jeju black pork loin katsu, 14,000 won: the smoky flavor is the kick

Full spread of Jeju black pork loin katsu

Jeju black pork loin katsu, ₩14,000. This katsu is made with Jeju black pork (Tamna and Nanchuk breeds). It's known for its chewiness, umami, and that generous smoky char~!!

The batter thickness, the fat ratio — everything's perfect, and on top of that, that deep smoky flavor is just delicious ㅠㅠ The smoky char is really the key here.. Officially calling this a must-visit tonkatsu spot in Jeonpo, Busan❗️

The tonkatsu sauce at Hets is delicious too?! It's not greasy at all, but if you start feeling like it's getting a bit rich, take a bite of the diced radish kimchi.

Meat curry at 3,000 won, a thank-you serving and ice jelly

Meat curry loaded with meat at Hets

Meat curry, ₩3,000. True to its name, it's loaded with a generous amount of meat!! It's great mixed into rice, great for dipping your katsu into, honestly just great all around..

Sign explaining the thank-you service for police, soldiers, pregnant women, and others

Apparently, as a gesture of gratitude, Hets offers police officers, national merit recipients, soldiers, firefighters, students taking their college entrance exam that year, and pregnant women a free choice of meat curry, boneless gara-age, or a drink. (❗️ID or official ID card required.) Offering such a nice perk to people who serve the country — that's some serious class from Hets👍🏻👍🏻

Ice jelly served as a palate cleanser after the meal

Right before we left, they gave us ice jelly to cleanse our palate. Delicious food plus a thoughtful dessert to finish — there's no reason not to go. Please go eat here, it's seriously that good🧡🧡

If you're looking for a must-visit tonkatsu spot in Jeonpo, Busan, or a great date-night restaurant in Jeonpo, I completely recommend Hets Jeonpo Branch!!!
