Why we returned to Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap on a hot late-May day
This is a revisit story about Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap Gyeongseong-Pukyongdae Branch (금수돼지국밥 경성대·부경대점), a pork soup (dwaeji gukbap) spot in Daeyeon-dong 🩷 The weather lately feels just like summer.. and it's still May! Still only late May, ugh, but it honestly felt almost like midsummer. So naturally I wanted a hearty meal somewhere cool and indoors.
I happened to be passing by Gyeongseong University and Pukyong National University with an acquaintance, so I ended up revisiting Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap.
Where is Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap in Daeyeon-dong, and is there parking?
The restaurant is at 12 Suyeong-ro 346beon-gil, Nam-gu, Busan, on the 1st floor (lot-number address: Daeyeon-dong 39-28). It's near Bugyeongdae Station, so access is really good. There's no parking, so it's best to use a nearby public car park.
Since it's near the universities, lots of students seemed to come, and I saw everyone from solo diners to groups of friends.

Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap menu

Is the Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap dining room clean and cool?
The first thing I noticed walking in was how pleasant it is. Rather than the crowded, stuffy feeling gukbap (rice soup) places can have, it felt tidy and hygienically kept overall.
I looked around online and plenty of other people say the place is clean, too. The tables and floors were well kept, so I was comfortable the whole meal. The bright yet soft lighting stood out in particular.
It isn't flashy, but the modern mood comes through nicely, giving a different kind of comfort from the usual gukbap place. It was hot outside but the inside stayed cool, which made it a really good setting for eating.

What's on the self-serve bar, and are rice and noodles unlimited?
The self-bar has a rice cooker, noodles, kimchi, kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and chives, and the rice and noodles are free to refill. The self-bar was one of the things I liked most personally: everything you need is neatly laid out and you can just help yourself.
I could take as much as I wanted without feeling awkward, which made the meal much more relaxed, and I was happy about the unlimited rice and noodles too.
Being near a university area with lots of students, it felt like value for money was a priority. When I looked it up, other visitors also praised the refill system and the self-bar setup.

And the kimchi and kkakdugi were pretty tasty. Honestly, I felt I could finish a bowl of rice with just the kimchi. They paired really well with the gukbap, and the basic side dishes seemed well made overall.

How do Geumsu's pork soup and dumplings taste?
The broth of the pork soup isn't heavy, so it was easy to finish without feeling weighed down. I first tried it plain, then added a little chives and seasoning, which brought out another side of it. Many other reviews praise the clean broth, and I could see why.
The dumplings I ordered alongside were quite satisfying too. They're a good match for gukbap, with a generous filling and a nice texture. Eaten with the hot broth, the combination was really good.

Tabletop ordering and how varied the menu is
You order on a table-order device, and the screen is clean with easy-to-read text, so ordering was simple. The menu is more varied than I expected. Besides the basic pork soup there's sundae gukbap (blood sausage soup), mixed gukbap, suyuk baekban (boiled pork set) and more, so I wanted to try other dishes next time.

Considering the service and the state of the restaurant, the prices felt perfectly reasonable.

Is Geumsu Dwaeji Gukbap worth a meal near Gyeongseongdae·Bugyeongdae Station?
I was highly satisfied with the food, cleanliness, atmosphere and convenience here, so if you're looking for a filling meal near Gyeongseong and Pukyong universities, it's worth a visit.

Personally, I definitely want to go back again.
