When I arrived at the restaurant, there was a large banner out front, so I could tell at a glance what kinds of dishes they served.

There were menus for Korean set-meal reservations as well as special dining occasions, such as a first-birthday party with samgyeopsal (pork belly), birthdays, and family gatherings.

In particular, there was a wide variety of Korean set meals, from 12-dish table settings to 480°C oven-baked lotus-leaf rice. The set meals were divided into the Ilpum, Jinpum, and Myeongpum sets, so it seemed easy to choose according to the occasion or number of people.

They also had beef and pork, special à la carte dishes, and meal options, so the meat menu looked like a good choice beyond the set meals, too. The restaurant is on the second floor, and you can take the elevator up.

Regular tables and private rooms

Once inside, I could feel the calm, warm atmosphere you'd expect from a Korean set-meal restaurant. The neatly arranged interior had a soft feel that seemed well suited to a more formal occasion, too.

Tables were neatly arranged in the center, while the window seats had partitions that gave the space a little separation. I liked that you could sit some distance from the other tables and enjoy a more relaxed meal while looking outside.

Yukganmyeongga also had separate rooms. They looked suitable for everything from small gatherings and family get-togethers to company dinners and important occasions like a formal meeting between families. I liked that eating in a room would let you talk comfortably without paying too much attention to the people around you.

As I looked around the restaurant, I also saw a photo of borigulbi (dried yellow corvina). Since it is cooked in a 480°C oven, the photo alone had my mouth watering.

I had the oven-baked lotus-leaf rice set this time, but next time I definitely want to try the borigulbi, too.

The basic table setting

Each table was set with small plates, cups, and a dining mat, so everything was ready for us to start eating as soon as we sat down.

After you order, they set out the basic spread. A range of Korean side dishes, from Korean melon salad to japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), arrived neatly plated, and the colorful presentation looked as appetizing as it was pretty.

The menu I ordered that day was the oven-baked lotus-leaf rice set with marinated pork galbi.

It had been such a long time since I'd had lotus-leaf rice. When the carefully arranged table arrived, it felt like I was being treated to a wholesome, special meal. As I unfolded the lotus leaf, its gentle, fragrant aroma reached me first.

The rice was pleasantly chewy yet soft,

and it contained a variety of ingredients, including ginkgo nuts, jujubes, kabocha squash, beans, and pumpkin seeds, adding nutty and lightly sweet flavors with every bite. The rice was clean-tasting and delicious on its own, but placing it on the bean leaves that came with it made for another special combination. It was seriously irresistible with rice.

Among the side dishes, the Korean melon salad and japchae especially suited my taste. I loved the crisp, sweet Korean melon with its refreshing flavor, along with the bouncy japchae, which was seasoned without being overwhelming.

The marinated pork galbi arrived sizzling on a hot stone plate. It came nicely browned and cut into easy-to-eat pieces, so all I had to do was cut it up and eat. Thanks to the warm stone plate, it stayed hot right through to the end of the meal.

The slightly sweet marinade was delicious on its own, but wrapping it in ssam (leaf wraps) with the side dishes went together so well.

Especially alongside the lotus-leaf rice, it completed a filling and delicious meal.

Coffee and ice cream dessert

For dessert, I also had ice cream and coffee. I followed the instructions for making an affogato, and the coffee with the ice cream was sweet and pleasantly bitter—just right for refreshing my palate after the meal.

There was even cone ice cream, so scooping some out to eat for the first time in a while was fun and somehow brought back childhood memories. I was so satisfied that there was a dessert to round out the meal nicely.

A filling meal with lotus-leaf rice

I visited Yukganmyeongga while looking for somewhere to eat in Hadan and enjoyed a wholesome, filling meal with lotus-leaf rice. From the fragrant lotus-leaf rice and neatly prepared Korean side dishes to the marinated pork galbi served hot on a stone plate!! It was a hearty yet clean-tasting meal.

The restaurant also had a calm, tidy atmosphere, with everything from regular tables to private rooms, so it seemed well suited to occasions with several people, such as family gatherings or company dinners.
