Jonggak draft beer bar: ube, ale and funghi pizza dip at Sudowonui
In short
Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo (수도원의 비밀 저장고) is a food pub on basement level 1 of Youth Street near Jonggak Station in Jongno, Seoul, designed as a hideout inside an old European monastery. The writer ordered one ube draft beer and one ale draft beer, with a funghi (mushroom) pizza and a sauce for dipping it, and found the pizza delicious despite not usually enjoying pizza. For an unusual beer bar or an atmospheric place to talk near Jonggak Station, Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo is worth a visit for its draft beer and pizza pairing.

I visited Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo (수도원의 비밀 저장고), a mysterious pub near Jonggak Station that feels like you hopped in a time machine and landed in old Europe. The hideout-style concept is a real charm. The cold draft beer has deep flavor, and the golden pizza comes out freshly baked with cheese that stretches and stretches, so it was genuinely delicious and I want to recommend it.

What is the monastery-style interior at Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo like?

Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo is on Jonggak Station's Youth Street (Jeolmeumui Geori), on the basement level.

The interior feels like a time machine trip to old Europe, mysterious, and the hideout concept is unique and appealing.

There's also room seating, so it's perfect for group gatherings or company dinners, and I'd recommend it for dates too.
What's on the Sudowonui Bimil Jeojanggo menu?

The Western-style menu runs from a BBQ platter to chicken, pizza and pasta. The dessert menu also had carrot cake, parfait and berry red cake.

True to a draft beer spot, the range of draft beers was really wide.

With so many kinds, you can pick to suit your taste or try something new.

After we ordered, the first thing they brought us was water.
How do the ube and ale draft beers taste?

The two draft beers we ordered came out soon after. I went with the ube, and my friend chose the ale.

I'd wanted to try the ube since it's so trendy right now, and it was sweet and nutty, totally my taste.

The ale was my friend's pick, since they don't like bitter beer. The fruity aroma spread out and it was very easy to drink.

The foam on the draft beer was just right too, so it wasn't heavy. Cold and refreshing, it was perfect for beating the summer heat.
Is the funghi pizza with dipping sauce worth ordering?

The funghi (mushroom) pizza we ordered as our anju (food to go with drinks) was also incredibly good.

Besides cheese, it was piled high with toppings like mushrooms and olives, really overflowing.

We also ordered a sauce for dipping the pizza, and it went so well together that I was glad we did.

I first put a slice on my plate and took a bite. The amount of cheese stretching as I lifted it was already amazing.

I sprinkled on the Tabasco sauce that was sitting on the table to add a little spice.

Honestly, I'm not a huge pizza fan, and I've never once been wowed by a pizza until now. But all I could think about this funghi pizza was how good it was.

It was so good that I want to go again.
