Why did I use a car windshield oil film remover?

A hazy windshield on rainy days was stressful when driving. Even after replacing the wipers with new ones, my view was not clear, and the glare was especially tiring at night.

At first, I thought the wipers were the problem, but I decided to treat the oily film that had built up on the glass as the cause and take care of it.

Instead of beading up and rolling off, water spread across the glass like a film. The product I used this time was AutoGrooming Car Windshield Oil Film Remover.

It came with the cleaning solution and a dedicated towel. I did not need to prepare a separate sponge, so it was easy to pack my self-service car-wash supplies.

How did the glass change after rinsing with water?

I noticed the difference more when rinsing with water than while rubbing. Before the treatment, water spread like a film, making the glass look cloudy.

Afterward, I saw water droplets bead up and run down. On my car, the difference was most visible in the center of the windshield.

After rinsing, the glass surface felt a little smoother and had that squeaky-clean feel to the touch.

The process was not difficult. The dedicated towel made it convenient, and afterward I felt that my view was noticeably clearer.

Did I notice a difference in rain and while driving at night?

What I liked most was actually driving after using it. On the rainy day when I drove, I felt that first-speed wipers gave me enough visibility, and the glare was reduced too. At night, I felt less glare from oncoming headlights, which made my eyes less tired.

Where else did I use it besides the windshield?

I used it on the side and rear windows as well as the windshield. At home, I also used it to remove scale and water marks from the shower-booth glass, and I could feel the cleaning effect.

What order did I use it in, and did it take much effort?

This is the order I followed:

• First, I gave the glass a light wash.
• I applied the product while a little water remained on the surface.
• I rubbed it with the towel about 4–5 times.
• I finished by rinsing it with water.

I simply rubbed it as if polishing, so it did not take as much effort as I expected. More than the shine of the glass, what stayed with me from this self-service wash was the change in visibility I felt while driving.
