Ulju café for weekday work and walks: MUG

In short

MUG is a large bakery café in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju, Ulsan, with spacious parking and high ceilings. I visited on a weekday to take product photos, work on content, try an avocado coffee smoothie with a lemon cream cheese cinnamon roll, and walk nearby; it was relatively quiet, though weekends were crowded and the smoothie felt expensive at ₩8,500.

Was it quiet enough to work on a weekday?

When I visited MUG (카페 먹) in the Eonyang area of Ulsan on a weekend, it was crowded and finding a seat was difficult. I returned on a weekday to take product photos and work on content, and the atmosphere was quite different.

It was relatively quiet this time, so it was comfortable to take photos and catch up on work. I could also walk around after having coffee and bread, so the place stayed with me as a good spot for combining a drive and a walk on a pleasant day.

Where is MUG, and was parking convenient?

MUG is a large bakery café at 90 Hyangsandagae-ro, Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. The hours listed in the original post are daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with last order at 7:30 PM.

There is a private parking lot in front of the café, making it convenient to visit by car. The parking area also felt quite spacious.

It felt slightly far to come from central Ulsan just for a cup of coffee. The location was fine for stopping by on a drive around Eonyang or Sangbuk.

What were the seating atmosphere and weekend crowds like?

The interior was large with a high ceiling, giving me an open, airy feeling when I walked in. There were quite a few seats, but when I visited the previous weekend, the café was full of visitors, including families with children, so it was not a quiet place to relax.

On the weekday, there were fewer people, so the space felt larger and I could take my time looking at the view outside the window. Based on the day I visited, weekdays seemed better for taking photos or working on a laptop.

If you are expecting a quiet atmosphere, I felt you need to choose the day and time carefully. If I return on a weekend, I would like to come a little earlier. It also looked like a decent place for two people to rest while looking in the same direction side by side.

What were the bread selection and amenities like?

There were so many types of bread that I spent quite a while browsing as if I had come to a bakery. There were also various drinks, and the water was lemon water. Baby chairs were available, too.

What did the avocado coffee smoothie taste like, and how much was it?

While looking over the menu, I ordered the avocado coffee smoothie. It cost ₩8,500 and was the most expensive drink on the menu at the time. At first, I wondered whether avocado and coffee would work well together.

When I tried it, the smooth, nutty taste of avocado was combined with coffee. The texture felt substantial but refreshing, and it was not a smoothie where sweetness alone stood out.

It was a combination I had never tried before, but the two flavors worked together unexpectedly well. It could be worth choosing when you want something different from your usual Americano or latte. However, ₩8,500 felt a little expensive for an easy, casual order.

How did it pair with the bread?

The bread I had with it was a lemon cream cheese cinnamon roll. Since the avocado coffee smoothie was smooth, it paired reasonably well with the cinnamon roll's bright, tangy flavor.

Was it good for a walk or an outing with a child after coffee?

After drinking my beverage, I slowly walked uphill above the café. I could walk for a little while without going far, which gave me the feeling of stepping out for a short drink and stroll. I also spotted chestnut trees and insects that looked like grasshoppers nearby.

I also liked that I could enjoy the bakery, an exhibition, and an outdoor walk together. On the day I went, the midday heat had eased a little and the breeze was cool, making it comfortable to sit indoors and then walk outside.

With a child, it looked like a good outing for observing trees and insects; for adults, it seemed suitable as a drive-and-walk itinerary. Still, it is worth keeping in mind that the interior was quite crowded when I visited on a weekend.
