Why Otters’ doughnuts surprised me at this Gumi bakery café

Today’s story is about some delicious doughnuts I had. It’s surprisingly hard to find a place that sells properly chewy, delicious doughnuts, so I’ll tell you in detail why these surprised me.

Inside: a spacious café spread over two floors

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch (오터스 지산샛강 본점), the Gumi bakery café, is reaaally spacious. The café itself is big and it has a second floor too, so families and groups of friends can all sit comfortably, haha.

Even the regular tables are large enough for three people, and there’s a huge variety, including tables for four and eight. There were also floor-seating tables, which are especially handy when you come with children.

Inside facilities, including a photo booth and nursing room

There’s a photo booth for souvenir pictures, a photo zone, a nursing room, and a self-service corner too! It really felt like they’d put a lot of thought into making the place easy and comfortable to use. The bright orange interior photographs so beautifully, and it’s incredibly cheerful and pretty in person too!

The menu and bakery display

As you may have guessed from the size of the café, the drink and dessert selection is really varied too. From basic coffee to smoothies, iced tea, ade, and seasonal drinks! Whoever comes along can choose something they like, haha!

One memorable detail was how hygienic the bakery display was: all the breads were either inside cases or covered in plastic!! So many places leave bread sitting out, so I was really impressed.

The doughnuts, hot dog, and drinks I ordered

Let me introduce the drinks and desserts I ordered. There was even paper lining the tray, and you can feel once again that they pay attention to hygiene.

Milk cream doughnut

Seriously... doesn’t this doughnut look like it has “I’m delicious!!” written all over it? A lot of doughnuts have that floury smell and turn out dry, you know...? But the doughnuts at Otters, the Gumi bakery café, had absolutely no floury smell. The chewy texture was just sooo good..! To me, they were even tastier than brands like Dun*.

And can you see the cream inside...? It’s packed full. It was nicely sweet and smooth too. If you go to Otters, please make sure you get a doughnut. Please trust me. Looking at the photos now, haha, I want another one.

Crème brûlée doughnut

This one looked incredible too... It has a crème brûlée-style coating over the doughnut, you know? When you take a big bite, it makes this crackly crunch sound... How can a doughnut make that sound...? The sweet, crisp texture was completely my kind of thing. I’d have it again next time, haha. If you like sweet treats, you’ll like this.

New York hot dog

It had been a while since I’d seen a bakery selling hot dogs, so I chose one! The sausage was big, snappy, and tasty, and its signature mustard sauce went so well with it! They even warmed it up a little for me.

Don’t you love places that warm up the bread? (Otters also has a microwave available!)

Peanut latte and iced Americano

Now let me show you the drinks. The Otters characters printed on the cups and tableware were cute too. The peanut latte, a new autumn menu item, had a subtle, nutty peanut aroma and flavor.

And the iced Americano—what more is there to say? It went so well with the doughnuts. The beans had a nutty flavor too. An Americano really is the better match for doughnuts!

Parking, service, and location

Look at the parking lot at this Gumi bakery café, Otters, haha. It’s seriously spacious, so visit without worrying. And it’s nice that they’re open every day, right?

What stood out most was how thoughtfully every detail had been set up for guests’ comfort, and all the staff were kind, which made it even better. I’ll be back for doughnuts too.

It’s close to both Gumi Station and Gumi IC, so it’s convenient no matter where in Gumi you’re coming from!
