Suyeong, Busan café for post-run brunch: Famous Benny

I discovered this place while looking for somewhere that opens early in the morning. There usually aren't many places open at that hour, but this Gwangalli brunch café starts serving from 8 AM, so it was lovely to spend some time at an unhurried pace.

An easy stop after a morning walk or run along Gwangalli

The waterfront from Gwangalli Beach toward Millak Raw Fish Center is a well-known stretch of the Gwangalli running route. Warm up lightly along this route, head one block into the alley, and you'll arrive at the café. The route works perfectly for sorting out an early breakfast right after exercise.

It sits in an area where residential streets and little alleys meet. The café occupies its own two-story building, making it a Millak-dong brunch spot where you can linger in a calm atmosphere.

Dukes coffee beans and second-floor seating

Coffee matters to me when I'm having Gwangalli brunch, and I heard this place pairs Australian-style brunch with beans from Dukes, a well-known Melbourne, Australia roaster.

Inside, warm wood tones and creamy beige colors come together for a cozy feel.

For the signature The Famous Benny (₩18,000), I chose bacon. I also ordered mushroom soup (₩9,000) for something warm, soft French toast (₩17,000), and an Americano brewed with Dukes beans (₩5,500).

The second floor has window seats, sofa seating, and round tables, so it's comfortable for settling in. There were more customers than I expected.

The Famous Benny, the signature dish, comes with thick bacon, fresh avocado, and a poached egg on a croissant that's crisp outside and soft within.

You can choose salmon or bacon, and as a meat person, I naturally went for bacon haha.

When you break the poached egg, its golden yolk runs out and blends with the sauce, adding a rich, nutty flavor. The Americano I ordered with the food wasn't overly acidic and had a full body, making it a harmonious match for the brunch dishes.

It's a Gwangalli café that should satisfy people who care about the taste of their coffee, too.

Rich, satisfying mushroom soup

The mushroom soup is rich and thick, with the deep flavor and aroma distinctive to mushrooms spreading boldly across the palate. It is smooth yet filling, just right for easing an empty stomach at breakfast. It also comes with two nicely toasted pieces of bread, perfect for dipping into the soup.

Sweet, soft French toast

The French toast features thick-cut bread soaked deeply in egg and then grilled, giving it a soft texture. Add a light drizzle of syrup and it isn't excessively sweet, while that fluffy texture lingers in your mouth.

Alternating between the deeply flavored toast and the pleasantly bitter Americano is just incredible ㅠㅠ

I could feel the particular charm of a Gwangalli brunch café that draws people looking for a carefully prepared meal from early in the day.

What to know if you're bringing a pet

Pets are welcome, so you may occasionally see customers stop by after walking their dogs. Basic pet etiquette is required indoors, though. Visits tend to be with small dogs rather than large ones, and it is best to bring a carrier or leash so as not to inconvenience other customers. It's a great Gwangalli brunch spot for a relaxed early morning.
