Gluten-free Basque cheesecake café in Uijeongbu, a cake each: Forerest

In short

Forerest is a large café with a cabin-in-the-woods feel on Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi, serving coffee blended from 4 specialty beans and gluten-free Basque cheesecake aged 16 hours in the fridge. On a rainy day the writer and her husband shared an iced Americano, a hot green tea latte, and plain and Earl Grey Basque cheesecakes, and the dense, creamy plain Basque cheesecake was her favorite. At Forerest, order one cheesecake per person rather than sharing.

Forerest, a large forest café in Uijeongbu

What is Forerest, the large café in Uijeongbu, like?

Forerest is a large café on Nogyang-ro in Uijeongbu that feels like stepping into a cozy mountain cabin in the woods. It's where I had my tea time today.

As the name suggests, Forerest gives you the comfort and coziness of a cabin tucked into a forest. The clean, fragrant specialty coffee is good, but the real charm is how relaxing the space feels. Shall we head off for a fresh, leafy tea time you can't really get at a café in the middle of the city?

Inside Forerest, a calm, cozy space in wood tones and ivory is paired with forest views and quiet music.

Here's the inside of Forerest. It's decorated throughout in calm wood tones and ivory. The ceilings are high and you can see fresh green forest outside the windows, so just being in the café puts your mind at ease.

High-ceilinged central hall and windows at Forerest

There's a big hall in the center and small nooks here and there, so you can sit wherever suits you. In front of the central hall there are panoramic windows, and the view from there is beautiful too.

The Forerest terrace on a rainy day

On a clear day, I'd recommend having your tea on the Forerest terrace. Today it was raining, so we had our coffee indoors. The terrace view was so pretty that I kept staring at it, haha.

What are the menu and beans at Forerest?

The Forerest menu is nicely organized into coffee, non-coffee and tea. Forerest uses specialty beans, and by blending 4 kinds of beans it gets the flavor balance just right. It's a real coffee spot.

Today's tea time order

  • Iced Americano
  • Green tea latte (hot)
  • Plain Basque cheesecake
  • Earl Grey Basque cheesecake

I ordered a hot green tea latte for my husband and an iced Americano for myself. Honestly, I usually drink lattes, but the reviews for Forerest's cheesecake were so good that I went with an Americano. I wanted to enjoy the dense, rich cheesecake even more.

How does the gluten-free Basque cheesecake at Forerest taste?

They say Forerest's Basque cheesecake is aged in the fridge for a full 16 hours. It's gluten-free, so people who can't eat flour can enjoy it comfortably too. We ordered the plain Basque cheesecake and the Earl Grey Basque cheesecake.

It's seriously dense from the moment you cut into it. The second it hits your mouth, rich cheese and butter aroma rushes up. Then it melts away and leaves a sweetness behind, and the flavor is amazing. It goes perfectly with a clean Americano.

The Earl Grey Basque cheesecake is good too, but I loved the plain Basque cheesecake the most.

Why I recommend one cheesecake per person at Forerest

At cafés you'd normally split a cake between two people, but at Forerest I recommend just getting one cheesecake each. It disappears in a flash.

How were the green tea latte and Americano at Forerest?

The Forerest green tea latte is rich and nutty, so good! Sweetness, fragrance and the creaminess of the milk made it a perfect cup. You can order it iced too, but today was a rainy day, so we got it hot.

The Forerest Americano has a really clean aftertaste. It's more nutty than unpleasantly bitter, so it paired really well with the Basque cheesecake.
