In short
Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a Korean restaurant near Tongdosa in Yangsan, Gyeongnam. After the Tongdosa stamp tour, I had chicken kalguksu, chicken gomtang, and chewy dumplings with spicy kimchi. Verdict: a warming, filling stop before or after a Tongdosa outing.

After looking around Tongdosa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, I went to Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch (언양닭칼국수 통도사점) to warm up and properly fill my stomach.

With deeply simmered, rich chicken-bone broth, a generous half chicken served whole in the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and addictive spicy kimchi, this is a place that gives you a delicious meal whenever you visit.

What I tried

- Chicken kalguksu ₩10,000
- Chicken gomtang ₩10,000
- Chewy dumplings ₩5,500

The spicy kimchi, made in-house that morning, is one of the kicks here. There is also a milder kimchi for anyone who cannot handle much heat.
How were the chicken kalguksu, gomtang, and dumplings?

It was one of those days when the suddenly approaching autumn had me craving hot soup, so I ordered chicken kalguksu, chicken gomtang, and dumplings.

Chicken kalguksu ₩10,000
As soon as it arrived in a huge bowl, the nutty, savory aroma of the chicken broth caught my nose.

The large half chicken makes it look abundant from the start, and it is simmered so thoroughly that the meat slips softly off the bone at the touch of chopsticks. The rich broth is hearty with deep savory flavor, while the kalguksu noodles, kneaded and aged in-house, are bouncy and satisfyingly chewy—so much fun to slurp.

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu's signature, and an essential star of the meal, is its spicy kimchi made daily with Korean-grown ingredients. It is generously coated in a pungently spicy seasoning and truly excellent. Put noodles on a piece of chicken, add a bite of spicy kimchi, and you have the perfect mouthful!

Chicken gomtang ₩10,000
This is perfect for anyone who prefers rice to noodles: it comes generously filled with rice, scallions, and a plump half chicken. The rich chicken broth soaks moistly between the grains of rice, and a big spoonful with chicken and kimchi is wonderfully comforting and nourishing.

I debated noodles and rice for quite a while before choosing rice—and it keeps you full longer! Highly recommended.

Maybe it tasted even better because I had walked around Tongdosa for ages and done the stamp tour first? Hehe.

Chewy dumplings ₩5,500
They come as bite-sized potato-starch dumplings, with thin, translucent wrappers that let you see the filling clearly.

Dip one lightly in soy sauce and the pleasantly chewy outer texture comes first, followed by clean, nutty meat juices spreading through your mouth. They are perfect to snack on between bites of kalguksu!
A restaurant atmosphere suited to family meals

Inside, the white and light wood-toned interior feels very clean and comfortable.

The tables are spaced generously apart, making it a good choice for family meals or group meals before or after a Tongdosa outing.

Children's tableware and high chairs are well provided too, so families dining with young children can eat comfortably.
Parking and menu information

There is a dedicated free parking area directly behind the building, so it is easy to arrive by car.

Beyond chicken kalguksu and chicken gomtang, there are various choices including jjimdak (braised chicken) and chogye milmyeon (cold wheat noodles in chilled chicken broth), so choose whatever suits your taste.

Take part in a Naver receipt review and you can receive one complimentary canned drink; you can also refer to the origins of ingredients used in the dishes.
How spicy is the kimchi, and is the seasoning balanced?
The kimchi is on the spicy side, in the style of silbi kimchi, so if you are sensitive to heat, I recommend having it a little at a time. Milder kimchi is also available at the self-service bar.
The base broth comes with a little salt seasoning and perilla seed powder, so it is nicely seasoned without needing anything extra. If you prefer milder seasoning, ask for it to be made less salty when ordering and they will adjust it for you.

Eonyang Dak Kalguksu Tongdosa Branch is a Korean restaurant where kalguksu with rich chicken-bone broth and a tender half chicken pairs beautifully with spicy kimchi. Free parking makes it an easy recommendation for a filling meal before or after visiting Tongdosa!
