Gangnam café with 5 canelés and pistachio cream latte: Upper and Under

I want to recommend Upper and Under, a café near Gangnam Station. It's a large café near the station where both the desserts and the drinks were delicious.

Upper and Under is a café at 28 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea, using the basement, 1st, and 2nd floors. It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00.

Upper and Under, this large Gangnam café, has wide and pleasant seating up to the 2nd floor. It's one of the few large cafés right in front of Sinnonhyeon Station. There's also a terrace, so it must get even busier when the weather is nice.

Seating and mood: why Upper and Under fills with group meetups and first dates

Upper and Under has a slightly Instagram-worthy interior with plenty of seats, so there were lots of groups chatting together. Since every seat looks so pretty, I also spotted a lot of couples on blind dates, haha.

A look at the pie and baked goods case

This large Gangnam café, Upper and Under, is also famous for cakes and desserts. There were lots of pies — peach pie, choco banana pie, crème brûlée flan, caramel cheese pie — and they all looked delicious!

There were also plenty of baked snacks, haha — salted chocolate financier, pistachio chocolate financier, sweet potato financier, hwangchiju (gold cheese) financier. There was also lemon madeleine and corn madeleine.

Five canelé flavors in one display case

I really love canelé, but there aren't many cafés that carry it. Upper and Under had so many kinds — plain, Earl Grey, nunetine, pistachio, matcha — that I was really happy.

Cakes and the Basque cheesecake

And there were cute cakes too! There was the trendy yangzi ganlu cake, plus mango cake, lemon cake, and tiramisu, haha.

The rich, dense cheesecakes are kept in the fridge — vanilla Basque cheesecake, ube Basque cheesecake, gold cheese Basque cheesecake. If you're curious about ube desserts in Gangnam, this could be worth trying. What we ordered was pistachio cream latte, iced Americano, and pistachio canelé.

How the pistachio cream latte and pistachio canelé tasted

I ordered the pistachio cream latte since I was curious about the signature menu, and the pistachio canelé since I love canelé in general! With pistachio bits packed on so thickly like this, it looked bound to be delicious.

Upper and Under's iced Americano was clean coffee with no sourness. It paired well with the desserts without any fuss.

A cream latte full of nutty pistachio flavor. Can you see how both the latte layer and the cream layer are rich with pistachio color and aroma? The cream was thick and nutty and delicious. Anyone wanting a sugar rush would love this.

From the chewy canelé to the pistachio canelé generously coated in pistachio bits, the crisp-chewy canelé texture was really brought out well — this wasn't a dessert added just for the sake of variety.
