Why did I choose salmon and herring for picky cats?

My two cats are picky eaters, and they tend to get tired of having the same food all the time. I often let them try different foods as samples, and this time I gave them Thrive PremiumPlus Salmon & Herring again, which they had eaten well before.

This product arrived by delivery. Since both cats like fish-based food, I chose the salmon and herring variety.

What did I look at in the ingredients?

I first look at whether my cats will eat a food well, then I check the ingredient content and nutrients too. This product was introduced as containing 70% fish, and I was interested to see that it uses both dried meat and fresh meat.

I also looked over the ingredients and guaranteed analysis on the back of the package. It listed dried salmon and herring, fresh salmon, potatoes, sweet potatoes, salmon oil, salmon gravy, and peas, along with taurine and vitamins.

Was the zip bag convenient for storage?

My favorite thing about the packaging was the zip bag. My cats do not eat food that has been left in the bowl or out in the air for a long time, so I prefer packaging that can be opened and closed again.

After feeding them, I could close the zipper again, which made the food easy to store.

Were the kibble shape and dust different from their usual food?

I compared it side by side with the food they had been eating. I put their usual food at the bottom and Thrive food at the top. The Thrive kibble had a more angular shape.

When I poured the food into the bowl, the cats came over with the sound of their paws. I could hear them crunching away as they ate.

I also noticed that there seemed to be relatively little food dust. I usually do not repurchase foods with a lot of dust, so I liked that.

Did both cats finish their food?

The cat that came over first started by sniffing the food. Since this was a food they had eaten several times before, it probably felt familiar.

After sniffing it, the cat started eating right away. They crunched the kibble and ate it well.

I also saw one eye watering while the cat ate.

Since I had changed their food for the first time in a while, they showed interest in their meal and did not leave any behind.

My other cat has such a sensitive appetite that they do not always eat treats well, but they ate the salmon and herring variety well too. It suited both of my cats' tastes, and I was also happy with the relatively low amount of dust and the zip-bag packaging.
