What dry food did I try for picky cats?
Since it is food my cats eat every day, I tend to look closely at the ingredients. This time, I received Thrive PremiumPlus Salmon & Herring and fed it to my two cats at home.
I was interested in how it was introduced as having 70% meat content, no meat meal, and a grain-free recipe. The product information said it uses dried and fresh meat and is made in the UK.
What were the aroma and kibble like when I opened the bag?
As soon as I opened the bag, there was a rich fish smell. To me, it was less of an unpleasant fishiness and more like the aroma of smoked salmon.
The kibble was dark brown and triangular. When I touched it, there was hardly any dust, and the surface had a slight sheen.
For me, the kibble was neither too small nor too large. I could see the cats crunching it as they ate.
Did the cat that usually avoids fish-based food eat it too?
My cats are fairly picky eaters. This time, they showed interest as soon as I took out the food, so I watched to see how much they would actually eat.
Once I poured it into the bowl, the two of them put their heads together and started eating right away.
Even the one who normally does not eat fish-based food well finished every last bit. What pleased me most about this feeding was that both cats ate it well.
What stood out most after feeding it myself?
At first, I was interested in the ingredient composition, but after feeding it, the palatability stood out most. The low amount of dust and the sight of the cats crunching the kibble were also memorable.
For my two cats, it was a flavor they responded well to. I was especially satisfied that the one who usually does not eat fish food well emptied the bowl.
